A deal has been struck to bring this car to the Donnally home and I'm mighty excited about it. My knowledge of these cars is limited but, I know it's a special car that has had some great owners, including GM.
I'll be visiting the car in October, for the first time...I've never seen it😜
It'll come to KY as soon as arrangements can be made. We're mighty stoked about becoming the new caretakers. A trip to Haibeck will be in order.

Congrats.
I'm hoping it's going to Marc for maintenance, not modifications.

It has, for several years, been part of a large collection. With that said, I feel better having Marc give it a good going over with routine maintenance.
In my opinion, the car is historically significant and should be kept original so, no mods.

How can this have a real window sticker as an '89? Production run was '90 to '95.

The second run of '89 cars were production cars. GM did sell, I think two, at auction with MSO's. This is likely one of those.

That window sticker is from the NCM.
My guess is, the car has a VIN and GM did intend, at some point, to make the ZR-1 available for MY 1989. A price list must've been available and accounting had to 'account' for it.
It was charged to the Central Office (COPO) and sent to tech engineering in Warren, MI.
I'll look forward to hearing from those that know👍
What a great and historically significant car this is. I am very happy that you ended up with it.

This is very cool! Such a piece of history. Do you plan to drive it at all? I'd love to see the atari 8K tachometer lit up! Congrats on a beautiful car!

I do intend to drive it, sparingly. It has its original wheels and tires which I'm not going to seperate. I'll put together an extra set for driving and when the car isn't being shown.
We hope to take it thru NCRS American Heritage and whatever Bloomington Gold might offer, as well as a ZR-1.net get together at some point...maybe in Bowling Green.
It's a cool car so, we want to give people a chance to check it out.
I agree, the disco dash is pretty cool👍

I remember this car, from what I understand this and the Yellow Geneva car and # 3 a Red car are the only production ready 89s out there. I saw the Red car years ago,got pictures of it somewhere. Gorgeous car.

This car is listed on the Barrett Jackson website. 2017. And I recall they also may have sold it originally in 2008. Eric Jackson had two of the cars if I recall correctly. He may have owned this one.

Wow, congratulations again! So cool and what an important piece of history!
What is on the list for Marc to do? How's it run as it sits? BTW I saw your post on Facebook about the NoS tires - those are awesome. Can't believe how many people seriously think you're going to drive on them! Good grief...
Enjoy!

The car had not been started in three years so, I had it sent to a Chevrolet dealership that has a tech with an excellent reputation for 2nd generation ZR-1s. I did that so when I got the vehicle home, it would be able to move under it's own power.
They changed all the fluids, drained and cleaned the gas tank, installed new spark plugs and a new battery, primed the oil and started the car. It has 9,2XX miles and runs very well. Since it can take quite some time to get it in at Marc's, I won't be pushing it until then.
As for the tires...I'm probably going to Hell for stirring up those keyboard bandits on that Fakebook forum. I knew a new old stock tire thread would get em all wound up. Those tires could come in handy one day but, it goes without saying, not for much driving.

There's one in the front cradle, but you need to drop it to get it out as the frame rail blocks the hole it was tucked into.

Marc is finished with his work on #78 and it will be heading straight to Bloomington, next week.
He found this under the passenger seat. He took a pic and left it in place...

With the knowledge borrowed from Eric Jackson and Tom Barr, I've duplicated filter labels from early PF-970 oil filters. I look forward to changing the current filter on my 89 when it returns from the NCM...

I had the batteries for the 89 and 90 'restored' this week, also.
