View Full Version : Wheel Compatibility with GS Brakes
Thinking about wheels for a '91.
Currently I have reproduction A-molds with non-ZR-1 offsets in the rear.
Front brakes have been changed to Grand Sport calipers (before I bought the car so I'm short on details).
If I want to go back to a '90 or '91 style wheel do I have to worry about compatibility with the GS Brakes? Or are they close enough to stock?

And with a white corvette script logo in the correct C4 Venus Rising font
Fun fact the 96 Collector editions also were sporting the front "GS" calipers as well.

While they are basically J55's, the beefier castings make them marginally stiffer than a standard J55 and better looking too! Luv mine.

I had '96 GS fronts on "Barney,: the C4 ZR1 I once, owned, for probably 2/3rds of the 20 years I had it.
The GS fronts are modestly stiffer across the "bridge" than were the standard J55 fronts. That makes for less caliper spreading, more force applied to the brake disc and a marginally harder pedal during aggressive braking.
The GS rears are the same as all J55 rear calipers except they were black powder coated.
Any wheel that works with a standard J55 front will work with GS fronts.
