I just swapped out the gear oil in my ?91 with 30k miles and am having troubles getting the plug to properly thread back in. It appears to be the first time it?s been changed and it came off with no problems. I can?t imagine it?s cross threaded but understand it?s a tapered plug. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?
Thanks!
Bryan

Hmm not sure, how do the threads look on the plug?

Threads look fine. I?m able to get it threaded in about half way and then it stops. I?m hesitant to put much more torque behind it in fear that I will cross thread or strip it. Anyone else encounter this?

It is a tapered pipe plug. Usually they screw 1/2 to 2/3 the way in. Be sure to put some anti seize on the plug threads.

It only goes in about 1/2 way. Stop once it gets there with about 15ft/lbs.
