I just bought an abandoned 90 ZR-1 #226

I just got this car the other day It will be a parts car unless someone wants a race car as It came with a parts only Bill of sale. No title.


Anyone know this car? it was in Colorado near Denver I did find it on an old ZR-1 registry list but no postings specific to the car.

It appears to be all stock other than a cat back exhaust and a custom air cleaner housing.

Parked for who knows how long out in the weather, The mice just loved it.


Didn't come with keys but no biggie.

I want to get this thing running before I start tearing it apart

last night I swapped out the ignition with a spare I had and I have bypassed Vats So It cranks but no start yet Doesn't sound like the fuel pumps are making any noise. Not surprised

I'd be interested in the stereo head unit if CD/radio/tape all work. My CD player is done (even after repair attempt).

Also am interested in the ABS power module with relays, ABS computer, and ABS OVP relay (all in the bucket behind the driver seat).

Here's a shot of the intake never seen one like it.

Also check out the difference in the windshield to my other ZR-1.

Please ignore the Top my clear top separated on me so I threw on a spare top I had.

The smc is toast on the halo and I have tried to save damage that's like what's on the fender but I haven't had good luck.

This car also shows signs of paint failure, under the fuel door panel the paint underneath is pealing like it did on my other ZR-1.

Mice of course got in the car and made multiple nests so I am removing all of that. The interior is all coming out. so I can check the harnesses and Ill go over all the other harness for mouse damage. Some interior plastic is good other like the halo trim was all cracked and junk, Ill see what I can salvage but I think the carpet and seats are done from that and the UV rays, Dash board is also cracked door panels may be savable so interior is rough.

Never seen an intake like that before either is it metal ? Looks fabricated for sure. How in the heck do you change the filter. I wonder if it bottom feeds like the old ACI model

Me neither. Over 25 years w/ a ZR-1 and that's a first.

Don't forget the old Desert Development 3" system. That was the loudest I ever heard, and I owned a Power Effects for some time. The Power Effects actually had a nice sound generally but the resonance (or drone) was the worst I had experienced. --Bob

The drone was really the pain I was describing. The Desert development exhaust was indeed in the top somewhere in the ear bleed meter. GC

So its been a while I know, I at least figured out what happened (as far as it had previously been repaired) to this cars paint and body work at least on the driver side door the halo area and the quarter panel.

I could see a couple distinct lines in the cracks on the halo and it appeared to be filler so I tore it out, apears the panel was cut in these areas of the halo and the rest was a combo of different things like old school fiberglass on the driver's door. None of it was even close to a SMC fiberglass repair, It was never done with the intention of lasting for longer than the time it took to moved out of the body shop.

Hey Phrogs--If you took them with an iPhone the default setting for it is landscape and if you post pix taken vertically on some websites they will be flipped 90 degrees. One solution for this (there may be others) is to load them onto a Windows computer and use the Paint program. Open each in Paint, select rotate, rotate first right, then rotate left, then save it. That will remove that default landscape setting and you can straighten them with any program and they will stay. You can also edit them on the iPhone, which allows you to flip them, but I don't know if that makes the change permanent. I know this sounds a bit cumbersome, but I have been doing it for a long time and normally just have a few pics to correct at a time and it is no problem for me., I also use the simple Windows program Microsoft Office (mine is a 2010 version) to crop, lighten and make other simple editing changes. Give it a try and see if it works. If it doesn't, well, the advice you get from me is worth what you pay for it!

And as to the car, do you think it was a rollover?--Bob

I think I'm going to strip the paint off of this side of the car and see what I can find.

What was the final decision to part out or not part out? I had a parts request in since mid 2022. Need the coolant / heater core metal/rubbers hoses that run from the thermostat housing to the heater box. Thanks!
