Fellow members,

Some of us are still basking in the glow of Gathering Week 2022, but looking ahead, Corvettes at Carlisle is just around the corner at the end of August. Please look for details in the 60th edition of Heart of the Beast due out very soon. Meanwhile, I wanted to share a few nuggets for those of us that like to plan early.

1. Note that registration for Corvettes at Carlisle is now open at the following link: https://store.carlisleevents.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=2022%2D024. When registering, you will want to use the ?Fun Field? option, and please be sure to select the ?ZR1 Net Registry? under the Corvette Club pull-down menu (sorry, no ?dash? in the club name). Remember that there is a club participation award, so the more we sign up, the better our chances to winning, as we have done in the past.

2.Thanks to Charlie Sinunu (dredgeguy), we have discounted room rates at two hotels in relatively close proximity to Carlisle:
a. Magnuson Grand Hotel (and Boomerang Bar), 110 Limekiln Road, Unit 2, New Cumberland, PA 17070: Rates are $70 plus tax/night for a single (Queen) and $80 plus tax/night for a double (two full size beds). Contact at Magnuson is ANNA; email address is frontdesk@magnusongradhbg.com and phone # is (717) 920-3627. Identify yourself as a ZR-1 Registry Member to get the discount of $15/night on the single or $19/night on the double.
b. Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, 148 Sheraton Drive, New Cumberland, PA 17070 (a little more upscale and across the street from Magnuson-Boomerangs): The ZR-1 Registry group rate is $119/night plus tax (including breakfast), which is a discount of $15-$30/night depending on the room booked. Contact at Clarion is SAM (SUND); email address is gm@clarionhotelharrisburg.com and phone # is (717) 774-2721. Note that they require SEVEN DAY CANCELLATION to avoid room charges if your plans change. As with the other option, identify yourself as a ZR-1 Net Registry Member to get the discount rate.

To help with planning and to enhance the chances of caravanning to and from Carlisle, we encourage you to post your plans. We hope to see a great turn out at Carlisle between Thursday August 25 and Saturday August 27. Look to the upcoming HOTB for more details.

I am booked at the MGH hotel (Boomerangs), Efnfast is also booked at the MGH hotel. Please post up when you book a room and let us know which hotel. MGH only had 16 singles and 6 doubles available so once we fill them the hotel is full, do not delay.
Clarion gave us a 15 room block to start that can be increased if needed.
Looking forward to cooking up some BBQ!

I'm all booked up at MGH and will be coming up from SW Florida!

Been to Carlisle many times, but not recently, and never attended a Registry event. Thought I could make BG this year, but no dice.

I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great time...

Just made reservation for Tom Allen and I at the Grand Mag Boomerang Bar. We have five Vettes between us. Tom says the freshly restored C2 vert needs a road trip. Quasar will be sad but will get over it. PS, Bob L., will it be ok if some seat bladders are sold and installed at our tent?

Great to see that you can make it, Steve. Yes, we can all park together if we sign up through the "Funfield" option on the Carlisle site and select ZR1 Net Registry under the Car Club tab. Everyone should sign up that way, not just to ensure club parking, but to enhance our chances of winning club participation award. Re the seat bladder question in your previous post, I'll email you about that later today once I get done with some morning meetings.

Thanks,

I have no experience with it, but I decided that I would rather watch the cars go by than sit in my car like being stuck in rush hour traffic.

Did it once, wasn?t bad, wouldn?t do it again. It?s basically a slower version of trying to drive into the show field

IMPORTANT

As of today, we have just 41 registrants for the ZR-1 Funfield. WE NEED 50 TO GET THE BIG TENT, so anyone on the fence about registering, please do so NOW so that we can get the magic 50 required to get the tent next to where we park. Rules have changed this year, so we can?t even pay extra to get the tent - WE NEED 50 REGISTRANTS BY JULY 11 JUST TO GET THE TENT. Carlisle is not at all tne same experience without tne tent from which to base our event.

When you register, be sure to register under the ?Funfield? and select ?ZR1 Net Registey? under the club pull-down tab to ensure you are counted in our numbers. You need to register under Funfield to park with fellow ZR1 owners.

Let?s go folks - time to commit!!!!!

Young1
07-06-2022, 09:04 PM
The Z can be found. A lot of driver quality cars out there are overpriced. The super tight lightly used quality cars are bringing the bigger money. Don?t be afraid of a higher mileage well cared for known car. Charlie?s and mine are good examples of the latter.

MGH (Boomerangs) has only 2 single rooms left before they are sold out. We started with 22 rooms and 20 are booked. Our allocation of 12 rooms at the Clarion next door are all booked but they have a few rooms left and will honor our discount if you tell them you are a ZR-1 Registry member.

Last year Kevin, me an my buddy drove up early thursday morning got there around 8 ish and had no problem with traffic.

Mystic ZR-1

Get there EARLY is good advice!
Use the map feature on your phone to find the "secret
routes" to gate 3. Avoid the main routes, Rt11 etc., look for side streets etc.
South and North Pitt St is a good example, it parallels the main route, Carlisle Spring Rd and Clay St from downtown and has little traffic. It ends right across the street from gate 3 on the round-a-bout.
If you don't mind some dust on your car, there's the back gate (#?)
it's off Calvary Rd near the PA Trnpk overpass. Calvary Rd is a right turn off Rt11 just as you're entering Carlisle from the East. You'll need your windshield
sticker and some of it's a dirt road but it brings you out at the top of the hill
near the Registry's tent (if it's located where it usually is) Pretty much you're guaranteed no traffic any time going in this way...

ZR-1 Net Registry members rock! We made the minimum 50 registrants by the July 11 cutoff date. In fact, we got to 62! That qualifies us for the larger 30 X 20 tent in the funfield next to our designated parking area.

Now we can look forward to a great event at Carlisle Aug 24-27. Let's hope for great weather.

Yes they will Charlie, but no point in spoiling the fun for Erik. A related story from a galaxy a long, long time ago: In college one year I worked a summer job as a mechanic and driver at Ford's Dearborn test track. I drove a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair and parked in the employee parking lot. Not much was actually said about it, but when my clutch cable broke and I had to fix it in the parking lot, I didn't get one offer of assistance. I've not done the autocross there, Steve, but I observed it about four years ago. It seemed to be well organized and like the downtown parade, it is something probably worth doing once.

By the way, all, we have 66 registrants (cars), so not a bad showing. It won't be enough to take top spot in the club participation award since I know of at least one other club that has more, but we may still get a "podium finish". Regardless, that may ZR-1 owners is more than enough to have a lot of fun which is what this is all about.

Safe travels all!

This was my engine bay 2 weeks ago, so I've had a bit of a last minute thrash as well. Luckily, I'm only in the office 3 days a week so I've been able to put in 35-40hr/week in the garage to get everything accomplished "while I was in there".

Good news is yhe full R134a conversion was a success & I finished the paint last weekend so I can focus on the servicing the Dmaxx before I leave town on monday for the 3250 mile round trip. This will be my first Carlisle event and I'm really looking forward to it.

Glad your all set Steve, looking forward to seeing you. I am going to pick up batch 1 of 3 pork shoulders today at Costco and start cooking tomorrow, then get the next batch and cook Tuesday and then the final batch and finish Wednesday night. Drive up with 75-80 lbs of pulled pork Thursday morning where we eat what was cooked on Monday and so on. Tried to be proactive and change out the fuel pumps to the Delphi units that have the ridge on the outlet port. Plus installed Carter's machined triangle piece in place of the stock plastic unit. Even got new stainless steel clamps. Only problem was getting the assembly back in after the change out. Fought with it for an hour, it just would not get back in.........got pissed and manhandled it and forced it back.......I know it was way to much force, bent or broke something or maybe cut a wire. Now my gas gauge is stuck on 3/4 of a tank. Filled it up and 0 out the trip so I can keep track and not run out of gas. If this cannot be fixed, might have to go with the new single pump conversion. We will see. Anyhow, for now, just have to focus on the food, can't mess that up! See you all soon.

Quasar had not been out of garage since returning from Gathering. I popped in a rear wheel hub yesterday that was making noise. I will wipe her down in the Magnuson parking lot.

Manual says 160 lb-ft but Chevrolet later revised king nut torque for manual C4s to 190 lb-ft. Otherwise, it will develop clicking sound starting in 1st or reverse.

I would like to thank all of the members of the Zr1 registry for their work at Corvettes at Carlisle. It was a great weekend and I?m certain the show was enjoyed by all who attended. A special thank you to Charlie for keeping everyone fed again this year with his famous pulled pork sandwiches!
We are looking forward to next years show already.

It was great to see all the regulars, a few new faces only acquainted over the forum in person. Those I missed this year, there will be more Corvettes at Carlisle as years roll by.
Thanks to all those Registry crew who worked hard to keep us comfy and fed.

I got home an hour ago. Thanks to Bob Lambe, Jim Voter, Charlie Sinua for all your efforts to make mine and Tom?s first Carlisle relaxing, enjoyable and memorable. I challenge all of you to the autocross next year to go around at even a slow speed to understand the car control required. Great times and laughs at the Boomerang 🪃 too! Congrats on 2nd 🥈 place club!

My 11 hour drive home went without issues, including being stuck in a 20-minute traffic crawl in 93 degree heat. Car performed flawlessly and the A/C thankfully stayed ice cold the whole drive.

Thank you for all the veteran attendees making me feel welcomed. I enjoyed getting to meet everyone, hear stories, and learn from the experienced.

Looking forward to next year!

Kyle

A big thank you to everyone who celebrated Corvettes at Carlisle 2022 last week. We will do a full report in the next edition of the Heart of the Beast, but I did want to acknowledge everyone?s contributions to a funtastic event. Taking 2nd place in the club challenge was icing on the cake - spirit in the tent sure didn?t make coming 2nd feel like the first loser.

I would be remiss if I did not give a special shout out to Charlie and Jim and other WAZOO members without whose help we would not be able to pull off this event. Thanks also to Marc (ZR-1 Specialists) and Marty (Contes Corvette) for their generous donations for the auction, and to members who donated great items as well (Ray NY, Steve FL, Doug CT, Phil MD, Kyle IL, David ? (bourbon)). Thanks to their generosity, we raised more than $1,100 at the auction to help defray event costs.

We have lots of pictures (some of which can be shared in public - lol) for the HOTB article this fall.

Thanks again!

Bob Lambe

Thanks to all the above for a great time! Nice to see the old and new faces this year. Watching and hearing the ZR-1 on the auto cross course confirms there is nothing like them. Quite a car after all these years!
I will train harder this year so I can do 3 days of Carlisle and 3 nights of Boomerang's.

Another year at Carlisle in the books. Just wanted to say thanks to all who do the little known things like set up/tear down and storage....thanks Jim, Darren, Nelson and others from Wazoo. Appreciate all the efforts to get my fuel pump gauge working again, Jim, Phil, Yun and Louis from Contes Corvettes. The entertainment after the show at Boomerangs was outstanding. I think the staff at Boomerangs enjoyed us as much as we enjoyed them. They have already agreed to give us the entire hotel next year, guess our tips leave a lasting impression (thanks Steve)!
