Am going on a Road Trip and plan to use the spare tire tube for a small hydraulic jack and tools storage.

Any idea how much weight can a 1992 tire tube hold?

Thanks,

Gary

Well, the compact spare probably is good for a good 30 lbs or more so you should be okay with a like amount.

What would be the additional weight that you will add?

Thanks for the input.

Am removing the spare and jack. Will carry a small hydraulic jack and inflator together they weigh 30 lbs and that's the weight of the original spare and jack.

It can carry more than 30lbs... keep in mind it was indended to carry a front tire and wheel (Or just any regular tire and wheel on a non-ZR-1 C4.) This is why the "tracks" in the sides of the spare tire carrier have two positions.

The flat tire cover and hold-down strap were furnished with the ZR-1 for the unfortunate event that a rear flat tire occurs, in which case the tire/wheel would be too tall to fit inside the spare tire holder, since it's two inches wider than the wheel and tire that the orginal design was intended for. In addition to the above, it is also likely that rear ground clearance would be compromised with the spare fitted on the rear of the car. In the event of a rear flat on a ZR-1, it would have to be put in the rear hatch area using the flat tire bag and tie-down strap.

GW,

Appreciate the reminder that the tire tub was designed to hold the regular sized front tire in the lower position.

Thanks,
