I need to get a couple of fuel pumps for my car. What does the collective here think about what kind of pumps I can put in?

I installed ACdelco EP381 pumps last summer. The only pump I could find that wasn't made in China

Roy,
The pumps on Ebay are not a bad deal. Plus they are from a member which I think is a plus.
When you have the sending unit out, be sure and get one of the billet "Y"s that Carter makes. I have had the original plastic one develop a crack. Use stainless worm clamps and submersible fuel line also.

I just checked with Summit and the Walbro pump that Marc suggests is out of stock at this time. It also states that the fuel pressure is only 43 psi, not the 85 psi Marc's article states. Is 43 psi sufficient?

I got the pumps, screens and gasket from Rock Auto. I found 5mm viton o-rings for the sending unit bolts at Grainger, part no. 1RHN7.

The Rock Auto parts list is:

Acdelco EP381 fuel pump
Acdelco TS1 fuel pump screen
Acdelco TS2 fuel pump screen
Spectra LO148 Sending Unit Gasket

I looked and they were already sold. The fuel pressure is supposed to around 43 to 45 psi.

It was over 10 yrs ago but I replaced my fuel pump through a Chev dealer...turns out the part number for the 1991 ZR-1 pump and the Suburban are exactly the same..go figure. Price was a lot less. Who know the part may still be OEM available??

I pulled the fuel pumps from my Z and put them on the bench. they were dead. So now it is confirmed.

Kenny, did NAPA have the hoses in a bag? I check here in Kentucky and they said that it's in a roll of 25 ft and costs $37.49.

Roy

Roy,
First, I would be concerned that they are quoting you the incorrect hose. Remember it needs to be submersible fuel hose. I am pretty sure I paid nearly that much for just the 2 1ft pieces. It is not cheap.
But to answer your question, yes, I ordered it from NAPA and it came in the bags pictured. Maybe give them the part #'s and description to make sure you get the correct hose.

I got a little concerned because the guy didn't know what submersible meant and it went downhill after that. The original NAPA store guy was good on stuff. He decided that he had enough and closed up shop and this new guy look like he escaped high school. Anyway, they are available in Bowling Green. Just have to smoke 'em out.

Roy

P.S. I appreciate the help. It makes a lot of difference!

I bought exactly the same two hoses here in Europe after recommendations by the brotherhood.
After ages of research these seem to be the only submersible pieces that are available to end customers. And at least over here they are RARE!
I don't think there are real alternatives to this exact set of gates hoses.

Once I get my truck back, I going to get the hoses in BWG.I managed to get the car started with the old pump that I had and I was able to drive to the new house. Now I have a new adventure with a code 31 issue.

First it was fuel pumps, now it's hoses. Everyone that I talked to have the regular hoses and saw the hoses at one place and I saw that they were not submersible. Any place other than NAPA?

If you don?t have any specialty hose places near you then you might have to order from Amazon or EBay. They have a bunch of options for submersible fuel hoses.

Here's the Gates part #'s

42196184 27097 3/8" x 1FT SUBMERSIBLE FUEL 0.375

I would think that any good parts store could get it. Of course, everything is not exactly normal these days!

I don't believe that any of the TI brand pumps are fabricated in either Brazil or China. The majority of the product line I believe is UAW made in Caro, MI.

TI bought the very popular Walbro brand many years ago.

TI would have several potential replacements. They do still do many in the Walbro product line.

Roy, If I recall correctly I ordered the socks at the same time I ordered the pumps. Got them from Rock Auto. (I am not 100% positive on this)
I'm not close to my records right now to see if I have a part #.
There is probably something on that in the "sticky" postings. If you don't locate it I will try to remember and see if I have them.

I have the long sock. Does it matter if it is the long or the short one? Plus, how do you get them back on the pump? I tried to push them on and it just won't go on.

Guys, I can't locate any info on the socks as far as part numbers go. It's been a few years since I got them. Might be a better question for Jerry or Marc.
I do remember the socks were a tight fit. Think I layed the socks on the work bench and pushed the pumps into them instead of trying to push the socks onto the pumps.
Hope this makes sense.

Okay, I now know more than when I started which is good. I checked all of the auto stores in Franklin, KY. Out of 4, one store had it and they had to order it. This was AutoZone. It's a Delphi fuel pump strainer and the part number is BFS0001 on the sales receipt. It's in a long white and blue box that says Delphi Technologies. I picked it up today and its exactly the same as my other one. On the fuel pumps, I got EP 381 and they weren't cheap.

Now do I need the long sock? I noticed that Kenny had the short ones for both of the fuel pumps? Inquiring minds have a need to know.

I didn't realize how long it took to get the fuel system fixed but it is done. Car started right up and no leaks. Now I have to get a cam position sensor for the engine. Phil's didn't work on my car and I'm hesitate to use Marc Haibeck's original one that he has. One more issue for the car. Guys, thanks for the help.
