Windshield Washer Paddle Switch

94 ZR-1, with the ignition key on, pressing the washer paddle switch on the multifunction lever will not turn on the wipers or the washer pump. Now, if I turn on the wipers at any speed and then press the washer paddle, the pump turns on and the washers work just fine...looking for any ideas! :)

In the absence of response, if it were I, I would start with the most obvious and replace the wiper stalk. Perhaps used part from one of corvette salvage outfits.
