1992 Radio Receiver Broken Bracket - Repair

When the radio receiver (CDM) was removed from under the passenger side dash, the outside (closest to the door) plastic bracket that holds the receiver up was broken.

Has anyone successfully repaired one of these brackets ? Such as gluing back on with epoxy or ?

Question - is it okay to leave the radio receiver (CDM) unsuspended on the outside (closest to the door) plastic bracket ?

Mine broke, too. Tried to fix in several ways but squeezing in the CDM need force which in turn always caused damage to the piece again.

I finally gave up and left the CDM on its own. Works well. From my experience I wouldn't waste one more minute trying to fix that.

But maybe others have different/more successful experience.

I am not familiar with the bracket. Is is something that screws onto the the body and has some attachment to the receiver like a screw or does it clip on? In any event, and this may not be really relevant at all, but I herewith pass along a recent non-automotive bracket fabrication I did. I had the front cover of a microwave above the door fall off due to plastic pieces breaking after years of use and heat (I suspect). It needed two broken brackets (tabs) on the top replaced; they had holes for screws. Not highly stressed points. I fabricated some new ones out of aluminum flashing, doubled over for strength, hammered flat, bent to fit and bolted onto the the piece with very small screws and nuts. Easy stuff to form and drill. Worked perfectly. I have a roll of 8" wide aluminum flashing that I have found useful for a number of non-flashing repairs like this. Just a thought. A roll at home Depot was about $10. But of course maybe the best course of action is to simply forget about it as suggested above. --Bob

Decided to make a "U" bracket to attach to the outboard stud on the Receiver/CDM and bolt to the dash end bracket.

Got the bracket made and installed with minimal amount of struggles. Hardest part was drilling the hole in the dash end bracket.

Made the bracket by bending the 1/8 in x 3/4 in aluminum flat bar using a 7/8 in socket as a mold for the half circle.

Radio/CDM now does not move with the added brace on the door side of the Radio/CDM.

Looks great and much stronger than flashing! :thumbsup: When I have used the flashing solution for things, I found I could fold it over two, three, four times and hammer it flat to get a pretty strong piece. But 1/8" aluminum bar stock will b e very sturdy.--Bob
