Is the 80s Z51 (2 turns lock to lock) rack a direct drop in for our ZR-1? I've been doing quite a bit of research but I can't seem to nail down anyone actually confirming that a quick rack will fit into a 90s car.
My "other" car has a similar steering ratio--so it's a personal preference, that the cars feel alike on track days. I'm fully aware of the trade offs.

I had a 84 Z51 for 7 years. I believe 84 Z rack was faster compared to 90s ZR-1s. Whether mounting points are the same or not, I do not know.

According to Mirrock corvette online interchange tables of steering racks.
84-85 first design
86-87 second design
88-92 third design
93-96 fourth design

I think you could retrofit an 88-90 quick ratio.
The K-member is the same from 85-91 on the L98, and the same for both the 90-95 LT5 / 92-96 LT1s. I would presume any difference that would need to be addressed with regard to interchanging them would be in the high/low pressure hose connections. The last year I'm familiar with the quick ratio 13:1 vs. standard 15.5:1 steering rack was with the Z51 suspension in 1990. I don't believe it was offered with the Z07 suspension in 1991. If the 1988 L98 and 1992 LT1/5 steering racks are compatible per Mirrock's and other parts supplier's websites, I'd think you'd be able to retrofit a 88-90 Z51 rack.
Mark at Mirrock would be best to answer this question as he deals with them on a regular basis.
