I thought I read a post about a 2022 gathering at the NCM. Can anyone confirm this, and further details? I'd love to cannon ball my ZR-1 to the NCM!

The Registey is indeed planning the Gathering for May 12-14 (reception eve of May 11) at the NCM. The Board will be following COVID as was the case during the past two years, and we are in regular contact with the NCM and NCM Motorsport park to see how the latter recovers from the recent tornado that ravaged Bowling Green.

All are optimistic that we?ll be able to pull it off in ?22 after a two year absence. More to follow as things evolve. Hope to see folks in May.

Good news. Would love to be there, too. Let's see if it can take place and they let us into the country ;)

As Bob stated, we are looking forward to getting together in May - I?m interested to see how many members are interested in a HPDI (High Performance Driving Instruction) class on Wednesday. If available, we will run our own classroom instruction for the touring laps, but it?s not the same level as the HPDI.
Any other events or seminars you would like to see?

We commonly receive requests for drag racing, but since 2015 Beech Bend has booked big events (Wed - Sun) that conflict with ours. This year the GS Nationals are the same 5-day period. Last we drag raced in 2014, only 5 ZR-1s participated. While we have not had the option since, we need a larger participation commitment to justify the significant expense of renting the track.

Touring laps with different run groups allow drivers of all skills to run their ZR-1s to their comfort and capabilities. (https://youtu.be/oIsgvb9USUo) and we have members with track experience to assist you as available.

I would be happy to instruct anyone who would like help on track. Have a lot of laps there in everything from C2, C4, C6 and even a formula Atlantic.
Won both Saturday and Sunday Champcar endurance races last April in a '91 C4.

Looking forward to putting my '91 ZR-1 out there and meeting some of you guys. Easy drive up from Nashville for me.

I would love to participate in any type of HPDE. Let me know if I can be of any help organizing such an event assuming we have sufficient interest.

I hope to be attending my first Gathering in May!

What are the safety and mechanical requirements for track time? Done some drag racing, but no other track time.

I too am looking forward to getting together with fellow owners!

Yes, will take everyone up with solid race/HPDE experience to assist our less experienced drivers. Will also ask you to be part of our instruction class preceding the event. Please PM me your contact info. Very much looking forward to getting back out on track!

With regard to safety, this is a self tech event, meaning you are responsible for ensuring your ZR-1 is safe to drive on track. Tires in good condition and proper psi, fresh brake fluid, no fluid leaks of any kind, nothing in your car that can move around... I'll get something in the next HotB to remind everyone of what is needed for a good and safe experience.

That said, this is a touring lap event, meaning no passing and your group only goes as fast as the slowest car. The NCM MSP does a great job of sorting us out after the first run among beginner, intermediate and advanced drivers and run groups. The key is safety, developing your car control skills, and becoming a better driver. We have all levels of drivers - and have never disappointed, but our focus is primarily on beginners, but all will benefit.

I always brought my ZR-1s when I had them but now I bring my 2016 C7 Z06 because that is what I have now. Still enjoy getting together with the guys I have known for many years. Yes it is a multi-day event. I always arrive Wednesday afternoon for that evening's pizza and beer at the Holiday Inn and Stay through Sunday morning, or sometimes Saturday if I have to get back home. One day is usually devoted to track time at the NCM track (touring laps) or go kart racing, one day usually involves a trip, like a distillery run, and one day--or several--have had seminars available, although we don't know what the actual schedule will be for this year yet. Come for a few days--it is fun.--Bob

For those of us who would be newbies to the registry gathering, Is there a general itineray to where and when the group will be from the 11-14th?

I live in Colorado and would be flying down to nashville. My brother and our family's Z would be coming out of Cookville about an hour east of nashville.

Mike, in the past the agenda has normally been published on the NCM website as well as here when it is developed. Normally one would sign up for Gathering events on the NCM website. Sometimes it does not get finalized until a month of so ahead of the event but much is normally available on the website. Most of the group has usually stayed at the headquarters hotel, the Holiday Inn University Plaza. Mark or Bob will eventually post a Group ID and rate for the hotel, but that is not finalized yet. In the past I have usually arrived at the hotel Wednesday afternoon for the informal get together that night. I keep saying "in the past" and "normally" because, of course, with our crazy Covid world who knows what changes might occur. --Bob

Appreciate your patience, Bob and everyone. We have a board meeting tomorrow night at which time we will make a final call on the dates for Gathering 2022. We had a couple of curve balls to deal with this year, but I think we've worked our way through them and should be in a position to bring it across the finish line this week.

Cheers,

Bob

Hang in there everyone. We are still dealing with the MEGA changes that are happening at the National Corvette Museum and are building a program around those changes. It's a work in progress and we will have a fairly-well developed agenda available for the next edition of the Heart of the Beast within the coming days. A lot has been done - a bit more needs to be done, but WE'RE ON IT!
