View Full Version : What?s a GM Grand Master Technician?
Just trying to get some understanding of what it meant to be a Grand Master Technician? How did a person get that title? How many of them were there? Was it a merit based title, or just a reward for time served?

It was graduation from the specific trade tech program in concert with ASSE certification. It was/is difficult to obtain. As there is a time commitment beyond your work to complete all the courses and certifications. From my understanding it could/would take years due to time commitment required and the availability of courses all playing a factor. Truly recognition for a journey level professional..... In multiple disciplines.

And all this time I thought it was based on how many posts one makes in the technical forum. LOL!
Seriously, thanks for explaining as I also wondered.

They would receive a cool trophy/award/plaque.
You see one every once in a while up for sale.

They have a new world master class tech these days. No idea on the requirements on that one. HOWEVER when a person achieves it it's normally part of that dealerships advertisements as a hallmark of professionalism and quality. A Journey Level professional no doubt.
Kind of like a Michelin star chef. If you have never had the pleasure of eating a tasting menu from ones of those professionals it is a treat....

Yes indeedy, along with the pewter statues they also received buckles and medallions. I have few of these on my shelf. GM also had some neat safety awards back in the day. That clear mug one the one shelf next to the blue ZR-1 promo with the Team Corvette logo was a safety award. Pretty rare these days as it was so 30 years ago.
