Looks like a couple of nice ZR1s at the NCRS national convention in Palm Springs, this week.
A prior commitment kept me from attending. Pictures are courtesy of Vinnie Peters, Editor of the NCRS Restorer...

I'm also mystified by NCRS "National" not fulfilling our request (cost or no cost) they just don't want to do it and believe me I spent time with regional directors & team leaders and most of the time the request is left on the back burner.
If you're a member of NCRS you will receive the publication called "The Corvette Restorer" in the restorer you have information pertaining to the minutes of the board of directors meeting the financial report and miscellaneous information for the hobby and all we are requesting is for the amount of C-4 ZR-1s that received flight judging.

I've been a member since 1988. Although I've not been as active in the last couple years, I still get out and judge, occasionally, in the 68-72 era. I've taken our 1969 L88 through Duntov and helped our twin daughters achieve 4 Stars with their 1979 L82 4-spd.
I won't dispute anything said here and respect everyones opinions. As for me, I still enjoy being a member and participating. NCRS has done much for the marque. I've made lifelong friends because of NCRS.
Like any org, it ain't perfect but, it ain't bad.

My car was there too. 94 white/black. Scored a National Top Flight (raw score), even with headers, aftermarket brakes and cooling, painted engine, smog delete, and paint protection film. Pretty happy about that!

Thanks much! It was a hoot to drive the car almost 2,000 miles and get such a high raw score. I learned a few things I didn't know about the car (like the fact that I had a broken fuel line clip on top of the A/C "suitcase"). Mirrock to the rescue there. The road west of Denver beat the heck out of the car (rough), but she ran great in the desert. We saw 111 on the outside temp gauge for a while, but as long as I was moving the coolant temp was reading 195. And, on the way out of the arena at the end of the show, it was fun to let the crowd hear "The King" through headers.

What you didn't hear, but I did because my window was down and I was right next to him, was KC Strawmeyer (chief of the load-out crew) say "there's one in every crowd". KC wasn't impressed at all. NCRS Nats isn't a Saturday morning cars-n-coffee.

Drop it? NO WAY! 😀

C.mon Doug,
Can't you see that Dave's accomplishment warrants knowing the numbers?
Why of course no one cares at all about how many ZR-1's have Top Flighted.

Some numbers are more equal than others.

Look at the bright side......
Now your resto mod non numbers matching a thing car can earn an award.
But I suggest you don't ask how many of those there are either.

I see where they may have some difficulty as the award is only valid while the owner who top flighted it still owns it.
They should be able to tell you the number that have been awarded, but obviously they choose not to.
Perhaps once it becomes a "paid for" service things might change.
I understand your frustration, but it is "their" information so they can do as they choose.
If those numbers were known maybe it would show things like more big block mid years have top flighted than were originally built or something equally as distressing.
I do admire your persistence though, as it has never wavered.
I award you the "Bulldog" Gold award!

Thanks for the award! I'll wear it with pride!🎖
Did you know there's more 55 Chevys around
now than in 1955? Same for 57s!

The red 90 is mine.

I drove 2-1/2 times as far as the white one went (5,108 miles, to be exact). My car is not modified and was presented on its born-with tires which helped its score. This was a focused effort for a Sam Folz Award (Longest driven distance to Nationals, awarded Top Flight with driven credits, which I didn't need) which was successful. Only 21 members have a Sam Folz, this was my second, and the first Sam Folz with a ZR-1.

How about drop it with the "how many top flight ZR-1 in NCRS?" It's not going to be known how many Top Flight ZR-1. But the number of Sam Folz ZR-1 is known: One.

Congrats on your award! You certainly earned it. That mileage amount must be close to if not the record for longest driven ever!

But did he get to replace the water pump half way there? :)

Which reminds me, I need to order a back up water pump.

No, I didn't have to install the spare pump I carried with me. I did have to replace a blown upper hose (one of the 90deg outlet hoses) on the last day. I walked the hose aisle at an Autozone in Upland CA, found what I needed, and installed it in the parking lot. That was my only failure; took about an hour to recover from. All of my spare parts fit in the RH cargo compartment with the storage bin removed. I had a belt, water pump, TECH-1, FSMs, 2 cans of R134 and a charge hose, fuel pump, and some of the tools that I didn't want in my kit I carried in the cargo compartment. I only went in there once for the roll of duct tape to wrap the blown hose to get me to the store.

Thanks for reading.

This list of spares serves as a good reference for anyone looking to do the same in the future.

Hats off to BOTH of you guys for Taking on the challenge of actually DRIVING your cars to compete for the award. A LONG ways I might add. Hell, your total mileage exceeded my mile son my 91' when I towed it to be NCRS judged. ( mostly because I'm lazy, I didnt want to have to clean it once I got there).

It definately proves how bullet proof the LT5 is. 30+ year old rubber and external engine bearings are consumables in my book. its just a matter of when I guess.
