no they work totally different.. If you are good with electronics, you could probably make an interface to use the 1991 in the 1990..

What is your reason for the change?

Because the previous owner change the original Bose system and put a new system and the monitor is not a perfect 2 din...so, he modify also the original plastic trim...now I'll like to change radio system and put a really 2 din, but I need a new radio bezel and gear consolle. Here in Italy I found these parts from a 1991 zr1...I'll like to put the 1991 key to do a good job...nobody know how use the 91 key in 90 zr1? What change?

the 1990 is a totally different key design and code in the ECM, you turn to full power the key stays there. On the 1991 and newer the key snaps back after you turn on full power. the key setup on a 91-newer is a module with a light.

you would need to figure out how to have the momentary key, set a latch for power all the time. Can it be done sure, but most here want original, if you don't care about the letters showing full power the 1990 bezels are easy to make from a normal bezel

Ah...ok...I understand the differences...
It's seems like I need a relay that keep the signal when the key is turn on full power...but this is only an idea...
I'll like to put zr1 bezel because there are the Yellow letters on it...
Or...I can use my key in the new radio bezel...but I know that this need some modify...I think 1991 key hole is bigger than 90...
So...thanks for informations!!

the mounting for the 1991 vs 1990 is totally different. Also a relay will not work, as you need to latch on then latch off.

I would need to confirm the 1990 key voltage but I am thinking a 1991 key assembly with a small Arduino could work with some software skills to program the Arduino.

How much are you looking to spend on the bezel?

Buongiorno Max, if you want I can ask in the German forum if someone has a spare bezel for you. I'd be surprised if anyone had... But it's worth a try.
Otherwise why don't you buy from a source in the US? Shipping shouldn't be too expensive for that piece and to my experience prices and availability are WAY better...

Hi Matt...i found the radio bezel here in Italy but it's a 91, the price is very low and the conditions are good. If you want to ask in the deutch forum could be an alternative...
I look on ebay.com but there aren't zr1 radio bezel for sale...but i think price and shipping are so high...(i need radio bezel and gear consolle)

Can you epoxy the 90 key/switch assembly into the 91 Bezel?

I would drill out the hole for the 90 key and mount it, you would need something to cover the hole for the LED

The 1990 key switch is bigger than 1991?
In the next days I'll receive the 1991 radio bezel and the shifter consolle...I'll like to use the 91 key but when I will have the pieces in hand I'll see what to do...

Looking at a picture of the 91 bezel you will need to drill or notch the ears for the 1990 key cylinder

Back in 2004 when i installed the auto transmission, I did not want to cut the
org radio bezel. So i got a radio bezel used from a non ZR-1 (1990).Drilled
hole and mounted the power switch. Then had decals made to show the
power settings on the radio bezel.

Yes...this was another possibilities...but, as you say, if you take the non zr1 radio bezel lose the yellow letters...can you show me the pic of your decal? Here decal shop tell me that the letters are to much little and there are difficult to cut...

Do you know if there is a color code for the gray of the 90/91 radio bezel/shifter console?

I do not the code for the radio bezel of the 90/91. It might be the same for all
C4's in that year. Check in the NCRS section and ask them.

I draw the letters with autocad, same high and thickness, the difficult is cut them because are very small...

Have u thought of asking Dan Merril? He has a bezel for a 91 and has a source that restored it for him including a decal I believe. Perhaps they can provide the font.
