I'm a long-time Corvette enthusiast. I've owned quite a few Corvettes over the past 30 years, but I'm a first-time ZR-1 owner as of a week ago. I have a 1991 black on black with only 12,100 miles.
It appears that the car sat without a lot of attention for some time. There are a number of little issues that I'm in the process of resolving. One of the issues is a gas gauge that is stuck on full - but my range readout is accurate, so it's not a big deal. However, I want to make this car as perfect as possible and am fixing replacing everything as necessary. This is one for which I had no solution, because I have no idea as to what the problem might be. It was recommended to me that I reach out to Marc Haibeck, ZR-1 Specialist.
I sent an email last night, not expecting that I would receive a response anytime soon - or even at all - considering a need of such minor importance. To my surprise, I had a response email from Marc in my Inbox this morning when I checked my emails. UNBELIEVABLE! This guy not only responded quickly to my meager request, but he knew the issue and provided me with a couple solutions. This guy is certainly the foremost authority on ZR-1s, no doubt...but he's also superb in his customer service.
Even though I'm about 7 hours from Marc's shop, I'm considering taking my car to him now to get the work done and have him look it over. I'd like him to do all my work. What a great guy!

I'm looking forward to bringing my car to him when it's pieced back together so he can sort out anything that I missed. Might even mess around with a performance package.

Seven hours, I drove three days one way from Washington state to have him tweak my z. That was five years ago and going strong!

This community here on ZR1.net is second to none. I?ve only been a part of it a short while and I have gained invaluable advice and assistance...which makes me feel even more comfortable with the recent purchase of my first C4 ZR-1! Thank you, Everyone!

Marc Haibec is truly a great individual and an irreplaceable asset to our community.
My only wish is that i had a buttload more disposable cash to throw his way, i'd dearly love one of his 510 packages, or maybe a big cube stroker LT5. A guy can dream.
If i ever hit the lottery, itd be the first thing i'd do.
Having said that, after being a small part of this august community for almost 20 years, i can honestly say that from my vantage point there's not a bad egg in this entire group.
Everyone here are stand up guys, ready to help anytime.
Congrats to all, but my hat is off for Mr. Haibec and all he does for our community.

What a love fest! Everything said is true of course. The reason you got an email quickly is he does his emailing around 2 AM. His day starts around 10:30 AM (son Bob is there earlier) and he always works late into the night, especially when he is road testing his 510+ HP creations on the local roads around the industrial park his shop is in. If you are a new owner I would strongly recommend you make an appointment to ship your car to Marc when he can get to it. I did that on both my ZR-1s when I got them, and asked him to fix whatever is needed plus make a few changes I wanted. He will examine the entire car and make recommendations on what is needed. He will change all the fluids and filters. He found things on my cars that I would never have even thought to ask about and took care of them. And always his prices are extremely reasonable. When you get your car back you will have no worries about it at all. Except that you will start dreaming about 510 HP, 4.10 gears, headers, short throw shifters and things like that. You will wake up in the middle of the night screaming: I NEED those things! That is your primary risk in dealing with Mr. ZR-1. --Bob

I have owned three ZR-1's and Marc has had his hands on all three. I live in Michigan and it takes me four and a half hours to drive to his place. I gladly drive or trailer the car to him and drop it off. I learn a lot about my car and it gives me the chance to see what others are doing, when I'm in his shop. Great guy to work with.

Dittos on everything said so far! And, too there's Pete Polatsidis too that is only minutes away from Marc. If I were to characterize the two, (to me) Marc and hi son make up a pair that are more comprehensive in terms of overall maintenance to serious LT5 mods, whereas Pete I think of as skewed more toward the LT5 end of things - tuning, bore/stroke, drive train. (Marc/Pete - correct me if I'm wrong!)
Great practitioners, BOTH of 'em! They together make the FBI (Fast Boyz of Illinoiz) what it is (along with other talented souls i.e., -=Jeff=-, and Dominic and Bob Gilig...to name a few!).

Mark finished working on my car about a month ago. He did his 510 package, coilover suspension, and took care of a few smaller issues. It took a little longer than planned, but he does beautiful work and is very meticulous. More than once he thanked me for giving him the time to do everything right. I am very happy with the results, the car runs great with a lot more power, and now everything has been looked over by a professional it's like a new car. Like said before you'll never regret having him work on your baby. Jim

First trip to see Marc with the ZR-1 was great experience. Car got lots of needed attention and Marc found stuff that I wasn't even aware of (such as my original injectors). Lots of stuff fixed. Saving up now for a trip back to get the really fun stuff done.

Marc is a systems engineer and not your ave joe mechanic. He's a student of the game and super sharp about both the lt5 and supporting c4 electronics and chassis. Between Marc and Gordon, you have 2 guys that have forgotten more about the vette than we'll ever know. And Marc is a detailed straight shooter. When he works on the car there are NO surprises and he details everything recommended, parts, cost, the whole enchilada so you will know whats happening. Marc has a son (who I don't know yet) and the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.
Marc will take care of you like a concierge to performance. He did a bunch of work on the LSV and I couldn't be happier!
Happy new year

Hello fellow zr1 owners,
After reading this forum I was not surprised to have received such a quick reply from Mr. Haibeck the other day when I emailed him to inquire about his performance calibration.
The performance calibration/chip is going to be shipped out tomorrow & I can?t wait to have it installed. :-D
Overall a great experience (via email) in communicating with Mr.Haibeck.

Several of us from the east coast gladly drive the 10 or so hours to have Marc put his hands on our cars. The ride home always puts a huge grin on my face!

No surprise for us old guys - Marc has been there supporting us for what, 20 years? He established a reputation for excellence in all he does. Rave reviews, and I?ve never heard a single complaint in all that time.

Thanks again Marc.

Congrats on the ZR-1! I've been in Corvette clubs over the years, motorcycle groups, but this community is by far the best in my experience.

I know Marc still loves what he does but once he retires does he have an apprentice? These cars need the care they deserve.

Marc's son Bob works alongside him and has for many years. Very knowledgeable and competent. I expect he would take over if Marc ever retires. (I expect Marc will eventually retire, but not sooner than age 90). --Bob

I agree, he was very helpful for me in solving a misfire issue a few months ago and now 1993 #135 runs like it should.
