View Full Version : BBS RS Type Wheels for ZR1?
I was always a fan of the oh so 80s BBS RS type lace wheels. Strong, lightweight, and to me at least, a gorgeous design. Does anyone know of a quality wheel that was available then of this type, but sized for the ZR1?
Something like this:

You can still order BBS LM's in the sizes you would need for the zr-1. I have been trying to figure out wheels for mine. I have been looking at Japanese wheel manufactures such as ssr and work wheels. The work vs-xx's are similar to the lm's.
Found these guys. Right size, in 17 inch. Right price. Wrong offset. Plus, they'd need some widening!

The wheels i have been configuring are around 100-200 bucks cheaper for multipiece mesh wheels. I would say by time you do everything they need to fit you could order some ccw's or something along those lines. They do look good though. The site I have been looking at is called www.evasivemotorsports.com they have all types of good brand wheels to choose from.

Oh! LoL! I didn't pay attention to that part. Def a better price then I thought.

The comments I saw indicated they were beautifully made. However, how will they take to being widened? And getting the offset right? Again, don?t know.

I really wanted a set of BBS RS wheels for my car but they stopped making them years ago and recently started making them in one size for a BMW,and at $2000 a wheel. I've seen several places that can piece together the wheels from replacement parts found on the internet.

Great point!
I do remember there being shops that did that. I forgot to look into those guys!
Nothing has come up in my searches of late. Do you recall anyone who does?

You would have to do some digging. Now here's an a$$ kicker, right after I bought the wheels for my car a set of BBS RS wheels in ZR-1 sizes came up for sale about 20 miles from me. If you go on eBay and pull up BBS RS wheels and see what's there.

Ouch. That hurts!
I wonder what other car used a 17x11? I'm guessing folks selling BBS don't think Corvette anymore.
So yes, the wheels can be widened. It also pretty well doubles the cost of them. I wonder what adding the right amount of width would do to the offset.

If I had the wheels widened I would want to use a shop that has done wheel widening many times. The welding process needs to be right to ensure that the wheels will not develop cracks in the heat affected zone. My personal experience with modifying wheels is about 175-250 a wheel to refinish and straighten if needed. I assume widening would maybe double that number. I cost me almost a grand to refinish a set of BMW E39 M5 wheels at a specialty shop. Wheels of America or whatever the franchise is called would not touch them, they said they could do the shadow chrome finish.

Because the wheels are of a 3 piece design the width possibilities are pretty much endless. There are companies out there that make the -shells- which is the hoops,or rim. Get a company that will make a set of shells with the BBS perimeter bolt pattern and go from there. I'm really kicking myself in the a$$ for not buying the set when I had a chance,$1500.
