SO looking into it a bit more.. my backlight only works with the parking lights on. I know the Photo sensors work.. so it is either a bad wire to the CCM, or the CCM is bad for that circuit, I am hoping it is just a wire.

My '92 it's on bright in garage or outside. Only time it goes dim is w/ headlights on when it's dark outside.

revisiting this...
LCD Dim in the the garage and while driving. Photosensor works, if in the daytime I shine a light into sensor LCD gets bright, remove light it gets dim,
I need another favor for those with 1991-newer. My guess is checking this in the garage will be most noticeable..
key on- Not running, are the gauges backlit as well?
If you adjust the brightness on the interior lights (light switch is off) does the dash get dimmer or brighter as the light dimmer is adjusted?
Thanks

92, in the garage, key on not running. Gauges are backlit. No change in brightness if the light dimmer is adjusted.

Thanks. Now to find where the change was made for that (my guess in the CCM)

Found my Answer.. CCM for 1990 controls the Backlight differently than the 91-95 (96)
I always felt like it was harder to see the LCD on the 1990 vs the 1991 dash setup I had before.
Last week I successfully swapped in a 1991 CCM into my 1990 ZR-1. it has been programmed for the correct mileage as well as set correctly for the ZR-1
Now I will see what I can do to add the DAB (Delayed Accessory Bus).
