Original fuel pumps are shot. Have read about replacing . . but having the old one out I have questions - 1) The 2 pumps are molded together as a unit and are mounted on a spring loaded tube from which I see NO WAY to remove them . There is a square metal tab spot welded to the bottom of the tube making them non-removeable . 2) if I somehow solve this spring loaded tube problem, how do I convert to 2 individual fuel pumps ?

I am completely lost as how to do this fuel pump replacement . All help appreciated . . .

attached picture shows pen pointing to spot welded tab on bottom of spring loaded tube.

feeling like a real dummy here . . . I see that the pumps slide down into a solid joined plastic case so I only have 1 question left . . . Does anybody know who to order the filter / socks from and proper p/n#s ? Thanks to all .

Cut the zip ties located on top of each pump and they will lift out of the plastic housing.

See my recent post "Fuel pumps" for info about parts.

Very pleases y'all found some diverse sources for parts. It is always a good thing to have some choices for parts, especially since so much stuff is made in China theeze dayz. But, FYI, case y'all are new here, Jerry, aka Jerry's Gaskets (https://www.jerrysgaskets.com/) is a Registry sponsor, and long time supporter of our cars. Keeping our cars running would be a lot more "challenging" if not for Jerry Downey.

Yes the pumps come out from up top. You need to cut the zip ties. Also best to replace the plastic style clamps with metal. I prefer self clamping vs the screw types.

And you will install the pumps in the opposite position as you removed them.

Make sure the wire harness on both pumps is attached so you don't have to do the job twice 😂! Been there done that...

Besides that it is an easy job.

Two questions.

First, exactly what kind of clamps do you have in mind?

Secondly, I don't understand how I would install the pumps in the opposite direction.

Thanks!

I actually documented some of the steps when I did my fuel pumps last year: https://zuggszr1.com/gallery

I have swapped pumps on both my z's. I do not have a camera but the bottom assembly has two fuel lines and the top has one. When you put it in you have to "rotate" the assembly to get it in the fuel tank.

You just cant drop it in because it wont fit. Needs to be "massaged in" to say the least...overall easy like others have mentioned.

Maybe it is easier for others than me.....

Constant tension hose clamps is the correct name and the OEM type for the cooling hoses.

Pardon my interruption, part number at rockauto? Search for ZR-1 and get the entire assembly (not sure if it's the right one) for $255. Or, fuel pump only is a single pump and I know that ain't right.
