Hello Guys,

My oil change light came on which begs the question: Do I continue with using conventional oil or switch to synthetic? I have a little over 40k miles on it. If I do switch what is the procedure?

Thanks in advance
Joel

I would switch over to full synthetic. I used Mobil 1 high mileage until about a year ago when I found out Mobil quietly reduced zinc and phosphate from 1100 to 800. Since then, I have been using Amsoil Z-rod 10-30.
Just my opinion and decision.

Brad Penn synthetic blend 10/30 is reasonably priced and has a zinc level of 1500. I get it on Amazon. Even mixing with 2-3 quarts that don?t drain from the pan will leave you with plenty of protection. My opinion.

Several quality full synthetic oils out there - just have to be careful of the "ZDDP" (zinc/phosphorus) levels are in/close to the levels present when the LT5 was built (early 90s) (See Marc Haibeck's article/presentation on the virtues of Amsoil he recommends for the LT5.)

I buy Marc's Amsoil by the case. I seldom drive 3000 miles in a season, which means if I change every other year it comes down to the price of a tank of 93 octane. Nothing but the best for our 2 babies! (90/91 ZR-1s):)
