I am sorry to say that I traded my black beauty for a ‘19 Grand Sport vert A8. After 42 years of owning corvettes, I finally joined the club of white hair and Chrome rims! This old body just can’t hit the gears anymore....

At least it's a Corvette. You have to do what you need to stay in the brotherhood of Corvette owners. Enjoy it and drive it. No need saving it for the next guy is my motto. Congrats.

For me, the cure was replacing both hips! I'll be a riot going through security at the airports from now on! :jawdrop:;)

Sorta related, the idea of expansion to include but not dilute our club comes up in the Board of Directors meetings; has for the past 4 years. We don't want to loose anyone just b/c they moved to a newer Z: several of us have done just that!

Consideration for "other" ZR1s is seriously being considered as an addition to our FORUM, perhaps under their own section heading - e.g., just like we have a GENERAL and a TECHNICAL section on this FORUM. CF does it, right?.

The "Board" had some bad luck finding sponsors for them, but it is an open debate as to how to include other Zs w/o relinquishing control of or eroding from "our original ZR-1 club": include w/o diluting: keeping it "as is" while providing camaraderie to other Zs in the process.

Tricky.

We need to get you back in shape, like I have been working on.
I would rather get back in shape; than give up my race clutches.

My kind of guy! While I loved both of my ZR-1s and I have greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of our group for 25 years (and still do). After roughly 20 years of ZR-1 ownership in 2016 I also decided that I was old enough for a warranty and an automatic. And also chrome wheels! Love my new Z06 but certainly missed having a Bowling Green get together this year. The nice folks at the ZR-1 Net Registry are kind enough to still allow me to attend the events despite my not owning a ZR-1. =D> --Bob

Been shifting gears for 65+ years ... funny how certain parts of the body no longer work as quickly as the brain. I followed Bob's lead and got one with a warranty & no clutch - interesting change & still getting used to it - definitely some new challenges, but great fun, especially on the dragon.

Congrats on the new ride!

I feel your pain. I’d love to wake up one morning with a full night’s sleep with no pain. Getting in these cars and rowing gears sure helps ease it & put a smile on my face though. 20 years of flying jets has left me broken but, God willing, I’ll hobble my way into and out of a ZR-1 for a little while longer.

George: Is that Spring Mountain? When?

Ted: No complaining. You are YOUNG
and not in HOT Las Vegas anymore!

No real aches/pains with the Z yet except for
banging my knees and hitting my head getting
in & out. Remember NOT to leverage the
steering wheel!

I do notice how TIRED I am when I get home
after driving the Z. Out of breath from the thrills?
My SUV is much easier to drive, more user friendly,
and not tiring. But still, nothing like the experience
of shifting through the gears!

Bought the 19 in May - attended Spring Mountain Aug 15-16 - ran into the Spring Mtn. folks the next week at Carlisle - ran the Dragon in September. Except for some minor traffic, one of the smoothest Dragon runs I've had in recent years - lots more confidence in the C7's abilities after attending Spring Mountain.

I used the PDR for a decent video on the Dragon but haven't processed/edited it for the net yet ... been too busy with other projects.

Hey Ted.
I gotta ask. What kind of jets were those?

Gunny I certainly agree that Spring Mountain was very important for me to gain confidence with the Z06. It is a lot of car and took me a while before I actually was willing to get fully in to the throttle. Spring Mountain helped a lot. And it was a lot of fun. --Bob

Not to hijack the thread, but in 2006 we had a (C4) ZR-1 Gathering in Las Vegas including Spring Mountain driving our Z’s. 11934. Early AM classroom, follow the leader, then sessions out on the track. 11935. Always repairs to be done! Got a new coil pack at local auto parts store and LB was back out on track! 11936 What a GREAT time!

PS: Expert driver took me out in my car. Told me I had sh*t for tires and sh*tty brakes.
PSS: Tried, but IMPOSSIBLE to get any Club track time anymore. Too many new Corvettes sold!

Soooo.... I'm dying to ask: What tires and what brakes are we talking about? What condition were they in, e.g., were the tires 8 years old, or at the end of their usable tread? Curious. Were there any recommendations for either?

Inquiring minds want to know!:mrgreen:

So did you immediately change to Brembos & 20" run flats? ;)

I don’t think I would call him an Expert Driver.
Your Brakes and tires change the longer you stay in the race.

All of the above. What did I know? Old tires with not a lot of tread.
Old brake fluid, stock brakes. If you are really going out on a track you need to pay attention to these things and more. I thought I could get by on the cheap. And yes, my friend is a professional stunt driver, but mainly he was messing with me, flipping the steering wheel back and forth with not too much change.

Since: C6 Z06 6 piston front calipers. Stops MUCH Better. FYI same master cylinder. Change to new clutch fluid and brake fluid if I'm doing a full weekend even(not much any more). Otherwise yearly maintenance with stock fluids for local drives and events. Very difficult to find tires
275/35-18 and 335/30-18.

PS: Demps AWESOME! TY! :saluting:
PSS: I hope that's you in the lead! :dancing
