Do you guys think 92 octane without ethanol is superior to 93 octane with ethanol? I understand what octane means, its more of an ethanol issue, assuming upgraded injectors.

I'd give up that one point for ethanol free

Dittos on Steve. AND where you live, the DA at that altitude - even in the flat land, east of the front range - 92 octane would behave something like 100+ down here at 600 feet amsl. And, if alcohol free, that is a nice bonus!!

I remember Sunoco 260. Used it in my dirt bikes.

Two years ago I met a guy with a 2008 Corvette; he was bragging about filling his gas tank with leaded Cam-2. He said it ran great, but with the engine check light on all the time.

Does it help any to add some 104 or 108+ booster? Snake oil?

Got news for you. You can still buy Sunoco 260 and more. In 5 gallon cans. It will cost you though...

Marc tells me our engines are not octane restricted. 91 is fine.

Until you start playing with new pistons, liners, cranks and cams.

Ok, at stock compression 91 is fine. I carry octane booster with me in case I can't get 91 or better

I remember hearing that all cars sold in US must be able to operate with no damage with 87. However, most hi-performance cars and German cars will lose hp when using less than specified min. Octane.

The short answer is, YES(1). By the grace of advanced computer controlled FI, the computers and developments through the 70s and 80s, our cars have the agility to safely operate our 11:1 compression motors on 87 octane if it has to. IOW, the motors, thanks to modern computer processors and sensors, will operate in a much wider range of octane availability than in engines would in the days of carburetors and distributors (including running compression ratios at "nose bleed" levels (compared to the old days when lead free fuel was introduced).
Put simply: with active sensors and control, our motors will run at peak performance when high octane is available, but the computer will back off (timing primarily) if knock is detected as result of lower octane fuel.
