I recently purchased a well used Tech 1 off ebay, however it did not come with any documentation. The seller had photos of the tool being on so i am assuming that it will function properly although that remains to be seen. I have a friend who is a good mechanic that helps me with a lot of my needs but I would like to not be a complete dunderhead about the Tech 1. Does anyone know of a user manual or such that will give a bit of guidance on how to use the tool?
I have looked around but no success.
Thanks for any help or advice. I really appreciate this forum.

Did you get a “Mass Storage” cartridge with it?

Make sure there isn’t one already in the back of the tester itself. The Mass Storage Cartridge, usually part #3000003, (but there are others) contains all of the diagnostic software from all of the previous individual cartridges. Saves a lot of time and energy trying to collect the individual ones. In one cartridge you’ll have all the diagnostic software a Tech1 can provide.

Unfortunately no Mass Storage Cartridge in the device. Can I perform the functions needed with the cartridges that came with it? Still trying to figure all of this out.

Depends on the year of your car. Looks like your have pretty much the right ones. The ecm cartridge will likely be the most used. Yours only goes to 90’. So if you don’t have a 90’ you need a later one. Monitor EBay and the sales area here. There always mass storage cartridges up for sale. The trick is getting one <$100. The diagnostics the Tech1 provides goes hand in hand with the diagnostic procedures in the FSM. Get one of those for your year car if you don’t have one. Worth their weight in gold.
