During my weekend project I removed the steering column to make some repairs -(and pull the brake booster), I bought a new multi-function switch from AC Delco. It is identical to the one that is in the car except there is an extra black wire in the cars ignition switch harness- it is a black wire that grounds to the steering column. It looks factory, the new Delco harness is a blank pin there. Anyone know, what that's about? Is is a 90 only ground for the airbag?

Can you remove the pin from existing connector and insert into the new piece? Most GM connector pins can be released from the connector.

That is what I guess I will do. I didn't know if this was known issue and why it was there. Thought is might be different just on a 90 because of the air bag and didn't know if it was factory. Thanks

that black wire has nothing to do with the AIR BAG to my knowledge..

I'd think you can ignore the D in the harness. If you wanted to do something with it (the pig-tail ground) you could splice to the G in the harness. I'd think it's intention on column) originally is for the 'horn brush'.
See 8A40-0 in the FSM.
Is D on the mating connector populated? If yes just move it from your old and swap.

I will swap the single connector if I can get it out without ruining it.

Release should be very straight forward.

If you've a GM Dealer close and they have the GM Terminal Kit. Most should - get a Delphi 12020320. Tell dealer it's in Tray #1 if they have the J-38125 kit.

Thanks, I will. I went to the local dealer yesterday taking a chance on the CCM GM exchange program...that was a total no go.
