View Full Version : SYS flash

After weeks of sitting in my garage I took my 92 out yesterday to blow the dust off it. Had the oil temp reading on display to know when it was safe to get the revs up and let the old girl sing.......
For the first time ever, saw sys flash and then the oil temp would come back. Changed over to coolant temp and same thing, sys flashing and then back to normal.
I am heading overseas today so have not had time to pull codes but read somewhere that possible older battery? I need to check my files but am sure the current battery is 5 - 6 years old so my guess is it should be replaced (at least before MR8 & BG trip this year).
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Especially after sitting, low voltage would come to the top of the list first.

Before starting, if the battery voltage is down around 12.1 or less, it may be a question of low voltage. Check you battery connections. Give the connections a quick brushing "while your at it.

So, then check you charging system. It should be 13.8 (hot) to 14.7 (cold) with the engine running. But, first, "clear the decks" of any old news by disconnect the battery for 30 seconds or so.

Unless you have the battery on a SMART CHARGER (e.g., Battery Tender), 5-6 years is approaching life expectancy (MTBF), especially if it is stored for long periods (i.e., winter). But, with a modern electronic charger, the batteries in both Zs and the 69 Vette are waaay older - over 12 years and counting on the 69 Vette.

I fully agree with Paul. It's battery issue most likely.

I started to go thru this recently. My issue was the EPROM was not clicked in correctly but the battery issue seems to be the most common issue for SYS.

Good luck.
