So new here... bought my 91 #837 white with red insides end of Sept from a Ford place in Cullman Alabama.... found it listed as a base model at 3am on a Sunday morning and by 10:30 found a salesman’s personal number and pulled onto the lot 8:30 am Monday......got a good deal and was what I wanted believe a lot of it is fate color and mileage I wanted 123k.... sure I’d like a never driven car that spend 30 years in a bubble but would feel like a tool for driving it sideways in the rain.... So new to the zr1 but have helped on vettes before and built everything over the years. Mustang’s, Camaro’s, GN’s, Cobras, Gt-40’s, Honda’s, Mitsubishi’s, boats, Apache’s Chinook’s Hawks and 58’s in the army and experimental s to citation 10’s as a civilian after that finished my Engineering degree and started building and restoring custom parts in my shop..... Want to act a fool and see if I can get a reliable 4 digits out of this car but really makes no sense when I can do a base model with a twin turbo ls and have pennies on the dollar of building the LT5 so sticking to normality...Car had the old school borla system , one of Mr Halbecks chips, K&N and a shifter.

Since I got it .....fixed the beast mode switch, the vacuum system for the secondaries that required a boost control solenoid from a 300zx twin turbo and a bleed on the map sensor under the ecu, extra grounds with a side post optima, new bilsteins don’t like the valving feels like a boat on touring fronts will be sent in, also went with a set of 13 inch eradispeed rotors all around with Baer pads and a DeWitts pro series two core......you would think factory radiators could handle 7k rpm shifts under 30 years old.....also called up fuel injector connection for a new set of squirters yes had intake plenum off twice since I bought it.....also installed leds inside and out lack a few like the console and glovebox...

Future mods
Greenwood vents been loving those since high school....should have been oem equipment ..... hell Camaro center consoles came with a bottle of polo and a mullet brush until 93 so why not
Coil on plug set-up.... hate wires
Full energy suspension set install already have just dreading it
Got a set of Baer track claws in the shop already painted
headers
port the intake and housings if I can find a spare
Same with porting the heads doing a poly quad port job..... if you’ve never heard of it do a google search personally picked up a hair under 100hp porting a already ported head on a 2 liter turbo Honda 538 to 627 with 5 psi less boost
And been researching the pip mega squirt unit
Raid junkyard since the 04 to 08 nissan maximas have 1 ohm Bose like the c6 cars.....shouldn’t be real hard to get a kickass system under 20 bucks

Also have toys in the shop
Electromotive coils
Lm2 wideband
Meth kits times 2
Bottles times 3 but trying to resist
Just like resisting a twin turbo rear mount kit because to do it I have everything except a drain pump.....and motivation

Had a lot happen over the last 4 years and this car has gotten me to move somewhat.... spent 2 years staring at a tv color pattern..... dream cars are good therapy cause I sat in a black 91 on the showroom floor and have wanted one ever since....Already took my daughter in it to our Mecca and did some pulls around the plant and had a c6 jump on me after diner at the Montana grille.....not on my Corvette day you didn’t....Daughter was belly laughing as we rolled by and yelling I’m street racing with my dad ..... good stuff

Guess I’ll see you guys in May since I live 45 minutes from beech bend and the NCM.....

Extra heads, intake, or fingers crossed old school Morrison headers give me a yell......I get it yea right newbee :)

Thanks guys look forward to my education

Very nice.

How did you know it was a ZR-1 if they listed it as a base model? (just curious) Catch a visual clue?

The ZR1 badge on the fender as a clue to dig deeper? Yes, I know; incorrect for 91 but a lot of guys have added them....

Congratz and WELCOME to the ZR-1 Net Registry! Best of luck with your modifications. DO post up your progress and successes & failures too (we all are still learning!!).

Speaking of learning, I never heard of "POLY PORT" architecture. And, per your suggestion, I Googled it and found this guy who was kinda fun to watch, tho not a big fan of "POLY' guy himself, :blahblah: but did define the concept at least.

Welcome to the addiction, Looks like you have already been busy. There is a wealth of information both here on the Corvette forums. The search feature is your friend. It is unlikely there is anything that has not previously been covered. In particular look for the “solutions” sticky at the top tech sections. Member “Dynomite” has done spectacular job of compiling and indexing just about everything. Parts wise you probably already know that Www.JerrysGaskets.com is our go to place for parts of all kinds.
Good luck and see you in BG.

Well thank God for fender badges....that was clue one
Car showed up at the dealer on Tuesday, owner traded for a ragtop caddy corvette and was listed late Friday on the web with just a few pictures.
Cargurus said 1991 corvette coupe then there dealer website said the same but true car had it pop up as a ZR-1 because of the 8 in the vin that I had just read about on anther ad.

Now as asked earlier failures
Don’t waste money on cheap *** emission solenoids for the secondaries they leak and system didn’t work after wasting 50 dollars.
300zx tt boost solenoid did but requires a t and a small bleed at the map under the ecu....
Radiator install did with friends at his garage so a out of my element and 2am .
So bad things happened with the last bolt.
Last bolt was the air box hold down thumb screws .... plastic has shifted up allowing the bolt to go deeper ....yep stabbed ac condenser...... hissing followed by a lot of adjectives.....
Besides that car really is easy and figuring out as I go....
did discover magic erasers cleaning pads work wonderfully on glass....

I did see where you guys are going to the mountains of North Carolina
Actually that’s where I grew up so you guys want normal cruising roads that’s easy and you can figure it out but if you want technical hang it all out decreasing radius off camber roads the local bike guys use that have never made it to the web I got that covered...drivers beware nc road dept are cheap asses if the sign says 15 it’s not a typo..... seen a lot of bad crashes as a kid....

Well he kinda did.... thing is you buy a half set of 1 or 2 mm oversized valves and have a machine shop lined up that can cut seats and valves properly....

Port job is normal stay off the short turn radius open up open more than the other raise the roof heart shape on that bowl blend gasket match polished chambers. Guy that did my buddies b series head valve job had a motorcycle shop and knew what he was doing.... guy in video has never done it or at least properly...interweb you tube hero..... reason for doing my buddies he got a new exhaust gasket from eBay and figure more would be better..... well he got into the oil drain and we had to machine out the drain larger and then press fit a offset bushing and go to matching up everything else so a month later and probably 75 hours of measuring cutting blending car got crazy.... 627 on 19 psi with like no timing all this in a car that weighed in at 2150 with him in it..... built a lot of stuff over the years and only car l’ve ever been scared of....day we took it out l saw 26 psi pop up sure that was in the 750/800 range at half the weight of a normal car and wrong wheel drive and brakes the size of dessert plates.... don’t like ice skating in cars

So if you got 20 minutes and like to read tech articles enjoy Mr Vizards article

Always interested to see someone try something new, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to sacrifice a pair of LT5 heads for what is effectively an experiment. Haibeck (zr1specialist.com), Pete and others have really perfected the porting of the LT5 where it's very achievable to get 500+HP out of a stock cube, stock cams LT5. If there was more power to be had by an alternate head porting style, I would be they would have already found it. I'd strongly advise you to talk to Marc (Haibeck) or Pete (Polatsidis) before doing something that may cost you big $$.

If you really want more power than just the standard mod path, PM Pete and talk to him about his 391cid closed desk, or even his 441cid. I've got his 391 with stage 2 cams and full porting, and it's all I want for street use at 600HP. Pretty sure he's still got a 391 engine for sale, so you wouldn't even have to wait for the normal build time.
