FELLOWS FORTUNATE TO MAKE NASCAR CUT AT WATKINS GLEN

Watkins Glen, NY - American Le Mans Series GTS class points leader Ron Fellows was fortunate to make the cut today when wet track conditions canceled qualifying for Sunday's Sirius at the Glen NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International.

With qualifying canceled, NASCAR set the 43-car starting field using its "rain" formula that is based on car owner point standings and Fellows received the 43rd and final starting position. Fellows will only be starting the race because his #1 DEI, Inc., Chevrolet team has run selected races this season with other drivers and had earned enough car owner points to be counted in the formula.

Fellows, making his only scheduled NASCAR Nextel Cup start of the season, will have to fight his way from the rear of the field in Sunday's 90-lap race on the 2.45-mile circuit.

Not so fortunate were Boris Said and Scott Pruett, two other "road racing ringers" who were trying to get into the field for Sunday's race, as well as former ALMS driver Klaus Graf. They, along with Stanton Barrett, were the four drivers who did not make the field under the formula.

All NASCAR track activities were canceled Friday at Watkins Glen. Practice sessions will be held on Saturday to give teams time to prepare for Sunday's race.

Fellows normally pilots the Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C5-R in the ALMS with co-driver Johnny O'Connell. The next ALMS event is the Road America 500 in Elkhart Lake, Wis., Aug. 20-22.
