I have a question about my 1991 zr-1, I recently had the ac compressor replaced, and now the car will run normally until it warms up and it just dies! When I try to restart it, it turns on and dies right away. Anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? Thanks!

Primary fuel pump

Had the same symptoms on my 94 right after I got it. Sure enough it was the primary fuel pump. When first started cold both fuel pumps run. After reaching 176 coolant temp the ecm shuts down the the secondary fuel pump. If the primary pump has failed there goes your fuel pressure and the engine dies. Upon restarting the ecm turns on the the secondary pump momentarily until 400 rpm is reached which allows the engine to fire briefly then die. In my case the primary pump had fully seized up from being improperly stored for a long time by the previous owner.

If the primary pump seized it will most likely also blow the fuse.

I'm going to second the primary fuel pump being the issue. I just had the same thing happen to mine and it was the primary pump.

Mine would run good until it warmed up and than sputter out and die. Replaced the pump last weekend and now it's running good.

FYI, from time to time Daryl (sp?) (aka Gold Cylon) makes up a batch of emergency jumpers which crosses the battery power from the (dead) primary pump over to the secondary pump. The ZR-1 carries a "spare" fuel pump, but you need his wiring jig to take advantage of the secondary pump (in a pinch).

Having said that, a spare pump placed in one's emergency parts travel kit, is not a bad idea either!

The jumper makes a great troubleshooting tool too!
