91 Z....U joints changed 1,000 miles ago...On the highway the other day coming back from corvette weekend in ocean city..

About a few miles from my home I heard a thump from under car like I ran over something....Don't recall anything on highway and quickly checked drivers side mirror to see.....Nothing...My best guess is I did not hit anything....

Car now has like a thumping sound coming from rear when I'm driving , mainly from left side......Only drove it a few blocks this morning to put into my garage.....Didn't jack the car up yet but checked maybe a loose caliper ? No there tight along with all lug nuts....Nothing hung up in wheel well either....

Do you still have stock inflation sensors on your wheels? Maybe one came loose, but it should cause some imbalance at hwy speed. If so, you will hear it when you jack up rear & hand rotate.

Otherwise, no suggestions apart from closer inspection.

Same happened to me last year on BG trip. Lost a brake caliber bolt. See if they are all there (I think should be 3)

I had a similar intermittent noise…found the upper bushing on the one rear shock worn away.

Update....Wound up being the U joint on drivers side.....I pulled the drivers side rear wheel and didn't see anything out of the ordinary ( limited space to work in my garage)...Got it up on the lift next morning at my mechanics...He replaced the U- joint no charge since this repair was done recently.....
