I've finally gotten a license plate that fits, but now it's too small.
It seems I need one of these;

Is this something they came with from the factory? Aftermarket accessory?
This thread on CF mentiones a machined aluminium version, which smells a bit like Carter. Is it the case that such an item can be sourced?
IIRC,someone once machined some of those brackets out of aluminum, with an LT5 Registry logo or something similar.

Good luck finding one.
It is factory, ZR-1 only.
I've talked to Carter about making these. He said he could, but I don't think he ever has.

Such bracket wouldn't be too difficult to fabricate for anyone with access to some common tools and material like aluminum or plastic(?).
Possible sources where I would try...
Jason at Vette2Vette (https://www.vette2vette.com/)
Mid America Motorworks (https://www.mamotorworks.com/default.aspx)
Eckler's (https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/)
Corvette Central (https://www.corvettecentral.com/c4-84-96/)
That said, MANY locations sell commercial license plate frames with their adverts on them, e.g., mine is from Deal's Gap: "Tail of the Dragon" a sort of souvenir.
Hope this helps.

Much appreciated, gentlemen. Not a frequent on-the-shelf part, it seems. As with most Z-specific stuff.
Guess I'll just have to keep an eye out for one. Not sure why a previous owner would have discarded the original one.
Anyone parting up a Z on the forum these days?

BigDave was parting a '93 not too long ago. Mark @ Mirrock is also a good bet.

Thanks Kenny, I'll try to get in touch with BigDave.
Mirrock didn't have any. Apparantly they are in demand these days, and rather scarce.

I think I have one ... need to search some boxes to be certain.

I could easily make some of these if need be. There are a few issues though:
It wouldn't be identical to the original GM part. (It would still look the part though.)
I'm not sure how much it would cost to make.
I don't know how much it would cost to ship one overseas.

One of our Wazoo guys had it 3D printed.

I took the DIY approach. For the cut-to-size aluminum sheet, primer, paint, and grommets, the cost was less than $50. I didn't sand between the coats of primer/paint in order to leave a plastic-like texture. I am very happy with the results.

That looks really good! That would be the way to go for somebody who wants it to look proper without spending gobs of money.

This is on my "low priority" needs list as well. My current one has a crack, so would definitely buy a new one if it was available.

If it's been 3D printed in the past, perhaps someone still has the CAD file?
Black Red '90,
That looks surprisingly good.

Thank You! It's certainly not an OE replica piece, but I don't think a casual observer would think it looks wrong on the ZR-1.

Well, it definitely doesn't look great without one. So those in need, sign up for Phil's project. (http://zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30981)
