Left the car out overnight, it rained lightly...when wifey went out in the morning, the back hatch is wide open, it is the 2nd time this has happened that, it rains, and my hatch opens by itself...what the actual...fck is goin on?

My guess is the door or window seals are bad letting water get to one of the hatch switches on the edge of one of the door panels. To check it go to a do it yourself car wash and select the spot free rinse water and hose down those areas. It is deionized water and best approximates rain water. Tap water often doesn’t give the same result because of the minerals in it making it “stickier”, not allowing it to get into places where rain water can. A trick from my old “Benz” days.

Well if you had a 94 and up I was going to tell you the PKE system is screwed up. Since yours is 90 and I assume you don’t have an aftermarket alarm system with remote entry that leaves only a few possibilities. The driver and passenger door openers could be defective or the under the console door hatch release could be as well. However my guess is the rear hatch glass strike pin is the culprit. Put a rubber vacuum nipple on the rear hatch strike pin to make sure the the pin is making contact with the release actuator. Without making contact it’s not really closed so.... Or I guess you could gorilla glue it down. GC
