Just saw a yellow 1993 ZR-1 run through at Mecum Harrisburg yesterday. No VIN available to me but it had 8,000 miles and was Competition yellow with a white interior. Nice looking car. Perhaps a car others here know? Said it was owned by one family until a few years ago. It was a no sale at $37k. So maybe a dealer bought it and didn't get enough for it. Knowing the current market, I would have taken the bid. But that's just me. --Bob

The TV broadcast said the car was just purchased from an 85 year old women. First time ever seeing that color combo in person.

That same car hammered for $27,250.00 1 week ago at a auction in N.C. The dealer that won immediately listed it for the Mecum auction. I guess 9 or 10 grand for a weeks work was'nt enough for him.

4500 mile red 1990 sold for $27500. Also, if anyone was actually there at the auction, did you happen to look at the white 1970 Monte Carlo SS454? It ran through on Friday. I would be interested in anything you remember.

Just because bid price worked up to mid 30s, doesn't mean it was fueled by real bids. Unless you know bidders, it is hard to tell the amount of the real bids unless the car sells.

Prices are crazy at the moment. I'm watching cars on cargurus. A 90 with 18 k miles went for a whopping $27,500.00 which was a miracle. But I see that a nice red 90 with 55K miles just sold for $12,000.00 and I think it was located in New Jersey.

Allot of people still have that mentality from days of old.... where at 100k miles, the car is done and needs an overhaul... Obviously thats not the case especially with a plastic car (no real rust issues) and the LT-5 engine under the clam shell... So when they see the miles so low as on many ZR-1s, they will pay more... in their mind, 50-60k miles is a used and possibly abused old car...

The people buying these cars now are the ones who couldnt get one when they were new..... like myself! Just a young guy starting out in 1990 with a new family etc... a $60k car was a pipe dream.... my first house was $59,900. :o

But I digress, Ive been preaching this for years,,, the C4 and the ZR-1 will have their day in the limelight again. Awareness is rising due to the new ZR1s release as well as another factor I just realized....

Having ALLOT of time to peruse the web for all things cars lately, Ive been seeing how sky high ($$) every metal car from the 60s 70s and 80s is selling for. Theres not allot of choices left for us working stiffs...

Lets face it, when a 77 Nova is somehow a $10-12k car.... in comparison for the bang for the buck, even an 84 Crossfire Vette comes out a winner. These cars will be just like everything else through attrition and such... Just taking a bit more time than we expected... not that I really care... I just hope I can grab another one soon enough before I cant afford it!

Speaking of yellow 93 ZR1's with white interior. There is a nice one on ebay today. I wonder if it's the same car. It from a dealer CMC Carolina Muscle Cars.

It has to be only two were built #179 originally sold at Konner Chev. I just sold last year to a good friend about a mile from me and #207 it was originally sold at Eklers Corvette in Fla.

CMC says they bought it from an elderly 85 year old couple. You can see on the window sticker that it says Ecklers.

The comments confirm that after all of these years, the bulk of "Corvette -
Folk" remain clueless about the ZR-1 and the LT-5.

Most of us have mused that this explains the struggle in appreciation of these cars.

Very similar to the nonsensical dislike of Cross Fire Injection in the 82's.
It is actually a pretty good design, just the "techs" back in the day did not understand it so they blamed the design rather than admit they were clueless.

Now in the day of mass fuel injection the 82's look pretty simple, somewhat archaic, but once set up correctly, pretty trouble free.

We need to "fight the fight", i.e. educate and spread the word that the C-4 ZR-1 is not the Edsel of the 90's.

If not us, then whom?

Afterthought:

As a group of individuals we should submit more articles to the remaining few corvette publications about our cars.

Intensify and expand our presence at Corvettes at Carlisle, Bowling Green, etc.

Each of us should have "Story Boards" for our cars with the aim of educating the enthusiast and the great unwashed about these magnificent automobiles whenever we display them.

The greedy bastard that bought it should have sold when he had the chance.
