I was at a local cruise in tonight and the ZR1 got a fair amount of attention. Here are some highlight comments:
Man to his female companion "This is the only Corvette they put a German engine in."
Guy to his buddy "It has a Lingenfelter engine in it, that means it is a 383." (Mine is actually a 368.)
Question to me, "Didn't Yamaha engineer this engine?"
Question to me, "Does this have that 4+3 transmission?"
Maybe we need that documentary after all.

We are thinking about producing a generic car show placard for members with all the C4 ZR-1 basics on it. This way don’t have to guess. Stay tuned.

Hans, I've got copy of the Dave McLellan poster. It gets a lot of attention. People that stop to read it, read it all the way through. I think the above idea is a great idea.

I Usually stay away from my car at shows.
There are always the experts who tell their friends all about the car and get it all wrong even when the sign is up; or Everyone who comes along and will ask the same questions.

One expert (ex=has been, spurt=drip under pressure) at a Cruze-Nite
insisted the motor in my Z came out of a Mustang???
I guess all DOHC V8s sorta look alike....
I‘ve found that the tuner crowd is more
informed about the ZR-1 than the usual
Baby Boomer/know it all generation you see
at car shows! All ya hear outa those guys is,
Big Block, Big Block....
You could get a Big Block in a dump truck or
school bus!!!!

Yes isn’t that wonderful?
If the trucks and buses had small blocks they would take forever going up that hill in front of you.

At radwood last weekend I was surprised at how little most people knew about them. I left the hood up and lots of people would glance at it and than stop when they read the inscription on the valve covers. Than the questions would start.
A few people knew about it. Definitely more of a hit with the 30-40 crowd. Lots of people like me that had one on the wall when they were kids or read about them when they were new. The euro guys seem to have more knowledge and respect for them.

Question to me, "Didn't Yamaha engineer this engine?"
I have gotten that too.. But remember the Ford Taurus SHO had the Yamaha V8, With the Corvette having a Lotus, I could see an ordinary car guy getting it mixed up.. keep in mind that was 30 years ago now
Question to me, "Does this have that 4+3 transmission?"
Remember, ordinary car guys remembering the 4+3 but it was not a huge deal when the 6spd debuted, as it was an ordinary trans but one of the first 6spd manual gear boxes

I always enjoy the guy at the car show that’s wearing the Chevy hat and the Heartbeat of America Chevrolet T-shirt and Obviously the self-proclaimed expert Of everything Chevrolet commences to tell me that my car has a boat motor in it.

He‘s sorta right but misinformed....
We affectionately refer to the LT5
as the “Boat Motor“ 😋
As we know, the LT5 never showed up in a
Mercury produced marine application only
a few prototype one offs.

That's what I have too. It's laminated for durability. Someone was selling them at the Gathering several years ago.

I get the Yamaha remark. He couldn't remember it was Mercury Marine that assembled and did a lot of the machine work and that's one of the reasons they were chosen in the first place. Hell many ZR1 owners don't know enough about the cars development and history so how can you expect the public to. Many people out there think that since it a 350 it's a standard Chevrolet block with lotus heads. I've encountered that before. When it comes to automobiles sometimes it's hard to separate fact from fiction or at least all the BS.

I think I have one of those, maybe. Not 100% accurate - has a couple errors - but only a blind man on a galloping horse would notice!
A new one is being discussed (at the last BOD meeting). It shouldn't be hard to put one together.
While on the subject, I've been enjoying the 2019 calendar that John and his wife put together. If we are going to have a 2020 calendar, we need to be be gathering photos NOW. Just sayin....
