No matter what.. car are not an investment. They are for transportation, yet many are for enjoyment as well.

Just posted a reply, not that any of them will believe me. They've got a long way to go before they hit the bottom of their depreciation curve. Heck, even the C5 Z06s are still falling, some to ridiculously low prices. I've decent C5Zs for significantly less than C4 ZR-1s at this point.

I think a couple got insulted with us comparing our lowly C4s to their High and mighty C6
do they not realize, without the C4 there would be no, C5,6,7 or 8???

It’s like young people who put down the older folks not realizing they will be old one day too. They think they’re young now at it will always be that way. In a few more years their C6’s will be 4 generations of corvette removed form the current car like we are now.

Funny how they think the C6 ZR1 is something so special. It's a great car, but no more rare than a C4 ZR-1, and it's really just an LS3 with a factory blower. I know there's lots of other stuff, but at least the C4 ZR-1 was a truly different motor. To me if anything in the C6 was going to hold value better, it would be the 427 convertible, or maybe the Carbon Edition Z06, which got Mag Ride, carbon ceramic brakes and PTM, but then GM of course made those options available on 12 and 13 Z06s, thus eliminating a lot of it's rarity.
What none of these guys seem to be willing to admit is that there haven't been any truly "rare" Corvettes in a long, long time.
Well, at least C4 ZR-1 owners never worried about value.

Truth be known, MOST Corvette drivers ("documented" C4 ZR-1 drivers) NEVER come close to the performance capabilities of their ZR-1s. So, I'm of the opinion that when it comes down to pushing the Vette to the edge of its envelope, MOST of those running their mouths only know and repeat what they see in print. And, simply being able to afford to turn the key on a new rocket doesn't automatically raise their stature among true driving enthusiasts!*
*I'd like to see how many could have kept up with Terry Carlson or Robert DeMarco or "Gunny" (or even ME) on any of the various MOUNTAIN RUNS before they start sticking their thumbs in their armpits to pontificate!:sign10:
The C8, or to be more clear, the mid-engine platform, has proven time and again to be the one to beat. So, I'm all for seeing it prove its stuff and elbow its way to the bar. Wish I could afford one! But, what is really going to be interesting to see is the Z06/ZR1 variants. And, would it be too much to ask to see an 8000 rpm, FI DOHC in a Corvette?? (With a $60k base price, they have the headroom to offer one, ya think??)

I've found just the reverse. Guys \ ladies with newer Gens are the ones that wave and pull up next to me and give a thumbs up......Its the older C1, C2 AND C3 folks that turn their noses up for some odd reason.

I’ve left a few replies in that C6 thread, these guys are in for a rude awakening. Once that C8 hits the streets ain’t nobody going to be looking at anything fairly new with a high price point. And the C7,I wouldn’t be surprised if prices for those go right in the toilet as well. As for me I,like many of my Z brothers here will just sit back and watch the show, and offer a tissue.😁

You would never know it by the prices some of these dealers are asking for the C6ZR1...I'm not knocking the car at all but mid 50's to even high 60's these dealers are asking...
If you look at all the generations of ZR-1's all of them were really high priced when they came out.....That doesn't mean if you paid 120 grand for a C6 ZR1 your going to sell it for 80 grand..
If you can get a new C8 reasonably equipped for around 70 grand new, who's going to buy a C6ZR1 for 55-60? A collector maybe...Again I'm not knocking the car its just simple arithmatic...
The new vette will attract a younger crowd.Usually the younger crowd is not schooled in past generations of corvettes like the older crowd..They don't see the generation, all they see is the year and the newest technology which in this case is really up there....
So in my opinion the prices of the C6ZR1 will drop....Not many people will fork over 50-55 grand or so for a 10 year old car anymore.....

High prices of C6 ZR1's? Have you even looked at some really low mileage C4 ZR1's on ebay right now. Like how about a really low mile 91 ZR1 that doesn't have it's original wheels and I think it has headers, no cats, and at least a muffler change. I don't care what they paid for the car as these guys say they own all their cars outright. But they haven't a clue what the market is or they wouldn't have bought the car in the first place. Not and try listing it for that much money. Only time will tell you what happens with the C7 market. But it's going to get interesting.

Cars like this are limited as far as where it can be sold,no headers in Ca. That car bone stock might see $30,000 but that’s a stretch. I paid $30,000 for my 91 with the same miles back in 2007 then the market went straight into the toilet.

Well according to Cargurus a 1990 I was watching sold for $27,500.00 with just over 18,000 miles on it. Seems a bit steep for those miles and a 90. But what the hey. My son was talking with a guy who inherited a 93 ruby with 77,000 miles. He doesn't know anything about the cars and was asking lots of questions. It looks stock other than a camera bar behind the seats and what looks like a line lock someone did. The lock had a green wire with a switch on the end so you can switch it on and off from the driver seat. He was thinking about asking $24,000.00 to maybe around $20,000.00 and wanted to know what collectors would think?

Hmm, line lock on a ZR-1? I'm thinking of selling my 91 blk/blk chrome A- molds 51K..Its set up very similar to yours, powder coated engine, 448 RWHP...No issues except for rear amps out and seat bladders don't fill...Paint on rear passenger quarter is faded a little, only really see it in sun...That's it....
Its really nice but in the market today what can I really get? Would sell for a built C6Z06 or if I wait maybe even a C7Z but then your talking a substantial addition of funds...
Probably one of the reasons I'm in no rush..Don't really drive that often in the summer...Its just too hot and humid in NY...I prefer spring and fall....Even take it out in winter providing there's no salt on the roads..
