I love my Vette even tho I don't get time to enjoy it ( driven once in 1 yr) and its cool and all but I wish someone would make a procharegr kit to get some real HP . 500 600 is a lot but 800-1000 is better . 400 like it has factory is childs play anymore

As I note in my signature, per Mickey Thompson, "Too much horsepower is almost enough". --Bob

Also I believe one of our members tried a flat crank approach to the LT5 but as I recall it did not improve the power much. Marc could comment on this if he wants.--Bob

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that more horsepower is always better. If you cannot get the power to the ground, then what is the point?

Agreed.

True but look at the dodge demon etc 700-800 hp and the tires aren't any larger than ours and they hook just fine.

A buddy had a Hayabusa that was tuned ( turned down from 600hp) to 420 I believe an thats on 1 wheel and under 600 lbs -

Im getting older and that being the case - I try and stay in shape to keep ahead of the masses- getting older merans push harder - and as for me it seems appropriate to do the same with my vette - when possible... I guess its a pride thing - we have cars that sold for 70k+ in 1990 and was the leader of the pack -Alpha - its hard to accept a front wheel drive cracker box- turbocharged POS - comes up and spanks the cars rear . If I hit the lotto I'll take us all to NRE and get the 500 cu in block with extras

If you want to see what can be done with a flat plane crank check out these guys. Hovemann Racing in Germany, they run an LT5 with a flat plane crank, get 800hp and 8000 rpm. Check out their videos in YouTube as well.

Did any of you guys go to BG this year? Attend the seminars on the last day when Marc Haibeck spoke and Graham Behan also talked about cars they have done and are working on. Twin turbos with the sky as the limit. Cars making over 1000 h.p. and one buyer who's car they did was 12 or 1300 h.p. .

That footage is awesome. The idea of a full-race LT5 in an Opel Kadette is just freakin' amazing.

Only thing is that's not a flat crank in that particular engine. Flat crank V8s sound like four cylinder engines. Sounds like a Cup car at Sonoma or the Glen and all the Cup cars use 90° crankshafts.

Holy Moley! I've done some track time in the past in real race cars, but that drive was just frickin' scary! Awesome driving. A lot of air under the front wheels at times. Brave soul there.
Must need new brake pads after each run. Rotors were really glowing.

6:20.7 is really scooting around the Ring Nordschleife. To give a sense here are the times for the 100 fastest production cars:

Top of the list is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ at 6:44.97
Viper ACR 7:01.3
C7 Z06 Corvette 7:13.9

You guys do realize that this video is CG and that is not real engine noise you hear.... It hard to tell these days, but watch the “people” on the sides...

(snip)

Quickest Corvette remains a C7 Z06, with a "big-lid" LT4 in it, at 7:13.90

Mero went 7.05 in a C7 ZR1 but, because it was not under 7:00, GM chose not to make the time official. Interesting story about that...apparently, right about the time GM was over there with the C7 ZR1, the folks who run run the place changed some of the rules by which manufacturers are allowed to run the course alone. That made tire warming, which is SOP on most manufacturer record laps, impractical. In cases where you have a guy like Mero driving, cold tires are the kiss of death (in this case, rhetorically speaking of course). That cost him and Chevrolet being the first production car under 7 minutes. The in-car from that has never been released by GM, but I have a copy of it and it's freakin' scary to watch Jim starting out on cold tires. He almost put it in the fence twice on that lap.

I, also, have the actual HD in-car (more visually-awesome than You-Tube, for sure) of the run Mero made back in 2011 in a 2012 Z06/Z07, of which I own an example. That footage is also freakin' crazy to watch. He want 7:22.68 on that run.

Easy to tell that's totally fake, but...at least it sounds like a V8 with a flat crank.
