Anyone know someone with experience removing and installing a replacement windshield? I was reimbursed for the cost of the windshield through my insurance but cant seem to find anyone who can install it. Everyone I call says they don't do labor only jobs. Please help!

I used Safelight when mine was replaced in Maryland. State Farm paid me directly for the ZR-1 windshield as they did not have an account with the vendor. I had it delivered to Safelight who did the install and were paid directly by State Farm. Took 2 months of discussions with State Farm for them to agree to pay for the special windshield but in the end I got my way.

Safelite is who my insurance company was going to have install the non-zr1 windshield until I told them I wanted an OEM specified original. So after I bought that and they reimbursed me I called Safelite back and that's when they told me they don't do labor only jobs.... :-/

I guess different Safelights have different policy. The Safelight in Columbia, Maryland had no problem after State Farm made the call to them and said I was going to supply the windshield and they would be paid directly by State Farm for the install. Call around to other Safelights in your area or have your insurance company make the arrangements for you. They respond better to the insurance company direct request than you or me. Good luck and keep us posted.

I called the Safelite store in BWG to install a replacement ZR-1 windshield and they were going to do it at my house but they backed out at the last minute. Said that they would it only in the shop but when I told them that it was a $2,000 windshield, they said no. They didn’t want the responsibility of installing it and screwing it up.

What did you eventually end up doing? I've been told to call around different body shops and see if they could do it.

Haven’t done anything yet. I was too busy working. Now that I am retired, I’m going to start getting back into things and that is one of the things on my too do list.

I have used a "local" installer here in Westminster, MD for several years. He has done about 10 windshields for WAZOO. Since he is not affiliated with a dealership, he is willing to do what he wants. The last one he did for me was in my garage and I helped to make sure it was the way I wanted it.
I recommend the you remove all of the windshield trim pieces yourself. Be very careful and your can get the trim pieces off without scratching or bending then. The trim pieces are no longer available.

Wow, I did not know that! Do you happen to have any tips for removing the trim pieces? Maybe some instructions somewhere on the world wide web? Thanks!

I actually have extra trim pieces.

The only way that I can get these repro or NOS windshields installed is if I agree to hold the installer harmless if something goes wrong.
Why would anyone want to risk having to replace a $2,000.00 windshield in order to make a few hundred dollars.
Most have said to me just too much risk.
I have used my regular glass company to do a number of them, but we agreed in advance that if the glass breaks during install or afterwards, that I will not hold him responsible.
I know the installer does high quality work, but things do happen.
We have in fact, had one windshield crack during install.
That was an expensive day.
You may have to offer similar terms in order to find someone willing to do it.
If it were a typical $250.00 piece of glass, no one would have a problem with it, but $2,000.00?
I don't chase those opportunities too much anymore. I will do one for a good or long time customer, but that is about all anymore.
Good luck in your search!!!

Try to find a local shop that does restorations. They will probably have a shop to recommend. Nobody will guarantee the glass if broken during install. Drive it to my shop in Texas ans You and I can install.

Did you try the vette shop on Dale Mabry ? Ask Mike or Jennifer , if they don't do it there , they may tell you who to contact .
