Hello all,
Just wanted to say thank you to all on the forum. After 4 years I finally have my car running smoothly and a good portion of it is because of the people here. I asked questions but did a lot of searching as well. Thanks again, I still have a ways to go but at least I am heading in the right direction.

That’s what is all about! Keeping the Legend alive and helping great folks like you. If you haven’t already, hook up with some of the Wazoo ZR-1 group in your area. (MD, DE, VA, PA) A great bunch to get to know and learn from.

He says it well!
Makes us happy to hear of the progress made!
Most helpful bunch of folks that you will find anywhere.
We kind of like these cars you might say, and by extension, their owners.

I too have had mine 4 years and it is running better than ever. If you have not done so consider changing your plugs, mine seemed OK, but changing them made a world of difference.

Thanks again all! I believe the Wazoo group did reach out to me to help, but due to my work schedule and no trailer I couldn’t get the car there.
That being said, it didn’t last long, let it warm up yesterday and went for a ride, only to die in the neighborhood. Seemed fuel related where it would start and immediately shut off. I let it cool down and was able to fire it back up and get it to the house.
Upon getting home, got a code 54, low voltage to fuel pump. Where is the best place to start with that one?

Sounds like it could be your primary fuel pump. When starting cold the ECM turns on both fuel pumps. Then cuts off the secondary pump when the engine coolant temperature reaches 176 F.

Thank you Jagdpanzer. Sadly I replaced the pumps a couple years ago and the car sat due to an intake leak. I imagine the pump may be bad with the old gas. Didn’t know if there was anything else I should check before replacing the pumps.

To confirm that it is in fact the primary pump try pulling the fuse to the secondary pump and see if it will start.

Anyone know where the fuse is located for the second fuel pump? I looked on the passenger side of the dash and didn’t see anything that was really clear..

If my memory serves me correctly, it is actually under the dash on the right passenger side. You will have to remove the kick panel and get under the dash to see it. If you’re a bigger person you might have to remove the seat to get under there.

I have to be an idiot.......I mentioned the secondary pump and I really need the fuse for the primary pump since the car shuts off after being warm. After I got the dash apart I reread my post......ugh!

Jerry’s Gaskets has this on his site... I’ve use the Preformace Electric pumps from RockAuto.com with good result several times.

Unfortunately, new senders w/pumps are no longer available. This leaves us with the only the option to repair the unit. More often than not, it’s only the fuel pumps that have failed. Both pumps are identical and are available from several different manufacturers.
GM #25163473 (ACDelco #EP381) (fits suburban w/454 engine) w/o strainer, (Rock Auto) $57.79
BWD #P36
Neihoff #P36
AIrtex #E3240 (E3940) has been reported to have different elec connector
Performance Electric #P240KC (Rock Auto) $18.70
GMB #5301042 (Rock Auto) $20.79
Delphi #FE0039 (Rock Auto) #45.99
Carter #P74037 Rock Auto) $24.99
Carter #P74074 (Cross ref to GM #25163473) Rock Auto $33.89
Carter #P74167 Cross ref to GM #25163473) Rock Auto $33.89
Bosch #69225 Rock Auto) $53.79
Denso #951-5016 (exact fit verified)
Denso #952-0057 Fuel Pump Strainer only
I would recommend the Denso unit, Amazon & WalMart @ $57.04. Does not come with new filter socks

Wow awesome! Thanks so much as I will be purchasing Denso units as soon as I can confirm it’s the pump.

Question is why did the fuse blow?

Jeff,
I agree and don’t have that answer. Didn’t get a chance to mess with it cause it’s too late but hopefully I will tomorrow. Still wouldn’t surprise me if the pump is bad.

I pulled the second pumps fuse and started this thing the other day with no issue. Rolled it out and let it heat up to operating temp, probably ran 30 minutes or so with no issues. Is it possible that the car was low on fuel (it was on reserve) and it went dry and popped the fuse? Kind of afraid to drive it yet..

Is there a current update on fuel pump availability? I intent to stock a pair but found out that the Denso, Bosch and Carter units seem to be no longer available. I'm looking for units that can fuel a standard performance setup and ideally need no modifications to wiring harness and/or mounting...
What about the GM OEM #25163473? They are listed on ebay but of course with a hefty price tag...
To me two things are key: reliability and ease of installation. So, what would you recommend as of today?

I have the Performance Electric P240KC purchased from RockAuto. Direct fit with no issues and reasonable price. You need to get 2 pieces and it comes with the sock cloth strainers. Just be careful with the hose clamps and might want to replace stock plastic clamps with stainless hose clamps. My stock clamp came off in the past so I replaced all with SS.

RockAuto.com has a good selection including Delphi. Performance Electric has worked well for me and others.

Thanks. I heard a lot of complaints about Delphi (but not own experience with them) but if the Performance Electric units do the job well I'll go for a pair fo these.
