I realize this may be getting way out in the weeds.
Have been a little bored as I thought I had everything working properly and nothing to work on! Discovered my seat belt light and chime are not working correctly. Here's the scenario.
When turning the ignition key on the seat belt light comes on for about 5 seconds and goes off. This occurs whether I have the seat belt fastened or not. Also do not hear the "chime" for the seat belt when it is not fastened.
Am not exactly sure how it should work, but it would seem that the light should stay on until the belt is fastened and the "chime" should sound as well.
I checked the seat belt connecting wires when I had the seats out and they are connected.
For background, the seat belt light was previously on continuously and had an air bag system light on. Cleaned the sensors, verified grounding and also cleaned the wiring connections behind the kick panels. This corrected the air bag light and the seat belt light went off.
The "chime" works for door open with key in ignition and also if headlights are on when shutting down and opening door.
Anybody have a suggestion as to how to figure this out? I've done the search deal and the FSM is not helping me much.
Appreciate the help in advance!!

Well, this thread didn't get any traction. I agree it is an insignificant issue, but since I have discovered it I will need to figure it out at some point so I can sleep at night!
If and when I decide to tackle it I will post up what I find.

Sounds like it is working exactly how most all would want it to (work).

Thanks for the reply Marty.
You are correct in that the light goes out and there are no "chimes" going off.
My question is to whether this is the correct way for it to work. I'm not exactly sure what the totally correct operation is supposed to be. I need to look at another '90 and see how their's operates. Have as yet to locate anything in the FSM that explains it.
Do you happen to know what it is supposed to do? Mine may be correct, but it does not really make sense in that there is no warning when the belt is not connected during operation.
As I noted in my first post, this is probably way out in the weeds, but I need to satisfy my curiosity.
Thanks again,

Most of us have pulled the chime because it’s annoying. It appears to be working as it should

Does the chime:
1) make noise with key in ignition, engine off and door open?
2) make noise when the lights are left on, key removed, door open?

If Yes to both, is the speed of the chime pulse different between the 2? if no, then the chime could be bad, the chime has 3 different speed pulses..

Thanks for the feedback Goldcylon.
And in response to Jeff: The answer to both questions is "yes". And yes, the chime pulses between the 2 are different.
Do you suppose the chime for the seat belt has been disconnected? If so, where would this connection be?
You guys are the best.

Unplug the wire for the seat belt. using a jumper, jumper the harness side wire to ground and see if the chime works, if not, it is a wiring issue in the dash, if it works then the seat belt buckle has the issue

Thanks Jeff,
As soon as the weather gets decent I'll check this out.
Really appreciate the feedback!
