I am installing my freshly bushed rear suspension dog bones. I dropped the 18 mm nut inside the frame. Have I made a small sacrifice? Is it retrievable? BTW my garage door is open and I am in short sleeves at 7:30 PM.

I am in my 70deg house, while outside it is -5deg with an expected high tomorrow of -16deg
I have all of my 18mm dog bone nuts..
Benefits of NOT working in the garage today :)
Been there, done that same mistake on the '92 I had while installed DRM trailer arm brackets.

So speaking of sacrifice.... I did the exact thing you did on the very last nut of course..... I tried getting the telescopic magnet down where it needed to be to fish the nut out.... no go, telescope wasn't flexible. I broke the last 3 inches off the telescope part of the magnet and used electrical tape to tape it to a very long zip tie.... Now I had a telescopic flexible magnet!! Worked like a charm!

I did the exact same thing replacing dog bones on one of WAZOO car about 4 years ago. I used either telescoping magnet or a magnet duct taped to a coat hanger to fish it out. Took a while... not an easy fish to catch.

If what you dropped is not steel...….the flexible pick up stick will work.

You may want to try a strong magnet to drag the nut to a spot where it can be retrieved. Its a BIG reason why b4 that nut is completely loose, I clamp a vise grip on it.

It was -22 when I got up this morning, not a good day for working on your Z unless you have a heater.

Just landed in Dubai from Dhaka on the way home to DC...78 degrees. Just have a sport jacket and am going to freeze when I land. Oh well, have 15 hour flight so will have to drink single malts to keep the blood flowing when I get off Emirates.

Better have your wooly long handles ready when you get back.
Have a safe and comfortable flight.

Reminds me of a trip to Buenos Aires (SP?) Argentina I took in June of '97. Left the USA in a humid 90* heat, wearing a light summer suit - never thought about traveling to the southern hemisphere...UNTIL the captain announced our approach to the airport and informed us the temperature was -2ºC. (SAY WHAT!!????:jawdrop:) The worst part was, I was to deliver a hands-on (ride along) "train-the-trainer" course to some field technicians! Somebody lent me a parka to wear, but I was soo embarrassed! (But, I had to laugh at myself anyway! And, I "fell in" with one of their attractive, blue eyed brunets that Buenos Aires is famous for; a secretary who's warm (personality) made me forget about the cold...)

Yup, when I landed after 15 hours on Emirates Airlines, did not feel the cold or much of anything. Looks like a good warm up for all in a few days.

Seems odd to see the word "sacrifice" with the picture of Charlie's beverage options!
Some Sacrifice!!!
Welcome home Charlie!

Used that exact tool today. Part of the service I was doing, decided to relieve the fuel rail pressure prior to changing the fuel filter, as recommended somewhere on this forum. Unscrewed the cap and dropped down into valley. Luckily I could see it and managed to retrieve with the claw type pick up tool. Couldn’t use the magnetic pick up tool as the cap is aluminium.

Is there a place where 10mm Sockets go ?
Every time I lose one they are all sold out in stores.
Same problem with 13mm.
