Getting ever closer to pulling plenum and IH for porting - maybe cam covers too. Part of the process will be refinishing. Curious to hear about powder coating experiences, I know that was the original finish, albeit poorly done.
Also very interested to hear how folks paint the lettering on the Plenum and Cam Covers. I have always done by hand with a paint marker, but I see a spray paint picture in the Solutions. How are you masking?
Thanks, Mike

This is how we do it. Clean the letters very well to avoid fish eye defects. Mask the area so that just the lettering is showing. Spray an enamel paint on the lettering. Enamal dries slowly. Then within two minutes remove the masking and wipe the overspray off in broad passes. Naptha is a good solvent for that. Test the paint and solvent on a hidden area. I have seen brake cleaner attack powder coating.

I sent my cam covers, plenum, injector housings and air horn to LGAFF, one of the forum member. He port matched injector housings to plenum, ported to 35mm and powder coated all pieces. Finish is not as pretty as Marc’s painted finish but more durable in my opinion. Powder coating was done 4 years and 20,000 miles ago and holding up perfectly.
As for the lettering, I hand painted with skinny brush after the powder coating using high temp paint.

I took mine to Josh Putnam, owner of Coating Source in Houston. Wasn't cheap, but quality was outstanding. 100% powder coat, even the lettering. Very glossy.. could not be happier..[ATTACH][ATTACH]

Paint by Haibeck. The paint used here is called "Fine Silver" and is about as close as we could get to the stock color, although it is a little brighter. I had Marc reuse stock black bolts to keep it as stock looking as possible. Just my approach; your mileage may vary. The "Haibeck 350 510 HP" letters are stick-ons that can be removed.--Bob

Thanks Marc, that sounds pretty easy - much better than paint marker. What adhesive is everyone using to glue their cam cover emblems back on?

When the time comes I’ll have stencils made for the lettering. One positive about the factory PC is the shade veried through the years.
