About 2-3 years ago one of WAZOO member's 91 Z suddenly caught fire in his drive way after pulling in and shutting down.
A fire inspector sent out by the insurance company told Ed that the cause of fire, in his opinion, was AC system. At the time, I brushed off this theory since we all know that R12 is not flammable. Right?

Recently I was watching an episode of Motorweek on Motortrend channel and during the "Goss's garage" segment, Pat was cautioning the viewers to make sure the shop had refrigerant identifier prior to having the shop work on the car. Reason being that we have counterfeit refrigerant in the market with propane gas used to cut the real stuff. Evidently, apart from flammable nature, propane physical properties makes it behave just like AC refrigerant.

I am not sure whether this is isolated to R12 or includes R134a.

Of course, this does not prove this is what happened to Ed's 91 but so far the most plausible.

Interesting, I saw the same segment on TV. The fire expert from State Farm said oil from the compressor leaked out and dripped onto the hot headers which started the fire.
