My 91’ Z ( 68K mi. - ,stock motor, Bolt-ons, 420hp.) -has clutch problems. Recently it felt like slipping at full throttle, but drivable. Today I took it out and it seemed like the clutch disc was dragging, lots of chatter. Pedal to the floor it wouldn’t go into gear. Limped home.
I’ve had several clutches in the car since new, + a Rippie single mass flywheel.
Question- what’s the best source for a stock clutch pressure plate and sprung disc.

Mark Haibeck has a couple low mileage take offs as far as a Dual Mass flywheel goes. He has the best recommendations as to which disc & bearings to use.
My Z had a single mass aluminum flywheel in it when I got it. I hated all the noise & vibration issues it had. Plus, the transmission was quite noisy all the time. At idle it sounded like it was about to throw an engine bearing at any minute. I hated showing the car to anyone, because I always had to explain why the engine sounded like it was about to blow up.
Mark H. installed a DM flywheel for me a couple months ago along with the other associated parts.
It's like a different car, the trans is totally quiet now, I love it. Mark even commented that my trans was one of the quietest he has ever heard.

Different strokes for everyone. I too had a Fidanza setup in my '91. Same issue regarding noise. Went back to the original DM setup and had trans blueprinted by Bill B. Never looked back. Quiet and smooth..
There is at least one full DM setup here under parts sale forum. That would be your best bet. I believe Bill Boudreau is rebuding OEM clutch discs too..

Is it the trans making noise or the engine. Looking at getting a single mass flywheel instead of the stock dual mass but I am using a t56 instead of the zf trans.

It’s the trans making the noise. A t56 might be less of an issue. Bill B is the man to ask. I believe he has t56 expertise as well. http://www.zfdoc.com

I may contact him but I know the t56 cars came with single mass flywheel so I am guessing it is less of an issue.

Hi Bob,
The best pressure plate for cars with up to 550 hp is the OE style Valeo unit. The posts are 1 3/8" tall. Not 1" like a L98 uses. It's likely yours is still in good condition and can be continued in service. We use the Centerforce 381039 sprung disk. Summit Racing part number CTF-381039.The disk is thicker than the Valeo disk. Use .005" shims under it to compensate. Six shims are needed. McMaster-Carr part number 97235K138. If the shims are not used the pedal will release the clutch too close to the floor. We use a roller pilot bearing. AC-Delco CT1078. Drive 500 miles in traffic before doing a standing start launch.
Note that the 1 3/8" pressure plate is no longer available from Valeo. The new pressure plates sold today for the ZR-1 are L98 style and made in China.

Thanks Marc. I appreciate the info.
I’m getting the stock clutch rebuilt and balanced with the Rippie flywheel by Kentucky Clutch. ( anybody have experience with them?).
Just pulled the clutch today, and it is TOAST. I wish I knew how to send a pic on this App. There was virtually no clutch surface left on the disc. But the unit was working normally just the day before it gave up...strange.

One more thing, do any of you guys run a clutch disc that has normal friction material on one side and ceramic material on the other? I’ve never heard of this but the rebuilders offer it.

I would like to know if there is a decent single disk solution that will hold up to 560 hp at the tire, about 450 torq
Marc, Phil and I talked about a redrilled single mass flywheel and a higher clamping force pressure plate
Like to compare single disk and dual disk strategies
I'm leaning towards the Ram Organic dual disk setup but it's very noisey and I have to admit I'd like something less diesel truck like
I love the feel of the fidanza with the stock lt1 unsprung disk. works really well and holds up everywhere EXCEPT the drag strip where it's a 2-3 run solution and then done.
I start to feel slip in 3rd and 4th gears at the 517 hp level and I'm adding a bit more compression via Marc's MLS gaskets and a bit more porting so I hope to see closer to 550 rwhp and about 450 rwtrq at the tire if all goes well.
Looking to retain good street manners but still hold up to some punishment at the track (both road course and drags, or flying mile)
the LSV 2 B will be beat on just as hard as the first one, maybe more!!
