Contrary to what I understood, the 92 LTPWS light does come on when no sensor are installed. On my car at least.....
It took about 50 miles of driving, then the light came on. Looks like I have to remove the bulb.

I have a 92 and do not have any sensors installed in my wheels. Found that out when I replaced the tires 5 years ago. The LTPSW light does not come on. I know the bulb is still installed and working as LTPSW lights up with all the other lights when you first start up the car.

90 and 91 are SUSPOSED to be the ONLY MYs that you can pull the bands and have no light. All other year models you need to pull the bulb. Dredgeguy is the ONLY exception to that I that I have EVER heard of 14 years of C4 ownership. GC

My '92 #180 had a functioning LTPWS when I first bought it. When I drove it home, the light was on. All tires had approximately 20psi in them. I aired the tires up when I arrived at home, and after driving the car the light shut off.
Fast forward to my first set of new tires for the car... I had the sensors removed because one of the sensors was damaged. The light comes on every time I turn the car on like it's supposed to, and shuts off after the engine starts... but the sensors are not present.
Does this mean I'm special too? :dancing

I can't even be sure if my car had the original sensors though. The wheels have been changed by a prior owner, and the body has 154k on it. I doubt the original sensors survived that many tire changes.

I asked Marc Haibeck about this issue and now I understand the confusion. There are 2 lights--who knew? I see the light at start up and then it goes out but did not know there is another light that must have been pulled by a PO. Marc explains as follows:
There are two bulbs. One for the LTPWS control system and one that goes on when a tire is detected as having low pressure. The system error light has been removed. The low pressure light never goes on when driving because there are no sensors to report a low tire pressure. When the ignition is turned on normally both lights flash for the lamp test. In your car only the low pressure lamp goes on when the ignition is turned on. A detailed description of the LTPWS system is located here:

My 90 has the full system and it works. Tires under 25 and I got a low tire light. My "specialness" is that when I get near cell towers I get a Service LTPWS light. Goes off after a few miles. Anyone else have that issue?

JoelI also have a 90 with a full working system, and the LTPWS light comes on intermittently as well. I never correlated that with proximity to cell towers .. I'll pay attention next time! I thought I just had a sensor on the fritz.

I never noticed that on my 91 but it makes sense as they do send a signal to the receiver.
