All he needs is one buyer .......
With an LT5 going for more than some vehicles, the article (while not expressly saying so) is suggesting that a C4 ZR-1 is worth less than the sum of its parts. I strongly disagree with this. This is THE car that brought muscle back to the Corvette and put it on top of the performance world REGARDLESS OF PRICE.

That is an NOS crate engine though, never been in a car. It may not be worth $20k but I'd say it's worth quite a bit if it is legitimate.

In the nineties GM price was $25,000.00 for an LT5 crate engine.
Cam covers were $5,000.00 each.

I was at Dooley and Sons (high end custom shop) just outside Magnolia , TX on Wednesday. I had a client's 1990 ZR-1 in there for AC flush and recharge. Jeff told me he had a good friend that had two crate LT-5's that he bought years ago. I asked if he would be willing to sell. Jeff said he he wasn't sure but would ask.
I'm wondering if this is one of the two...

The crate in the picture is not the original crate. The original crate is made of strips of wood with spaces in between. Sort of like a picket fence.

They’re coming out of the woodwork, heck there’s another one on Facebook in the “LT4 - LT5” Group for $22,500 in PA. With the softness in the market for these cars in general and the fact that 405 hp is nothing special these days l don’t see these engines getting that kind of coin. For that kind of money in your project car (non-ZR-1) you can have twice the hp. And for a Z owner that wants an engine refresh or even improvement they can send it to Marc, Pete, Demps or Cory for less and end up with more hp on their own numbers matching engine.

I mean, come on.....look at that beautiful spotless engine. If I had the $ too spend on that, I'd buy it and uncrate it and set it up in my living room. It's a piece of automotive art.

Appears to be as advertised, but is pretty rough, I wonder where it came from? He's had the left side cam cover off and didn't re-tighten the bolts, the left side water cooling pipe has been damaged, and hard to tell in the picture, but something has happened to the top of the plenum. Wonder what happened? Bad storage or did the pilot car wreck?
Lots of other goodies in the list, priced at high market prices.
I'd guess he's cruised this forum before, or he might be one of us.

And in the market today, I'd say 10-12 is much more realistic. There quite a few of these floating around. In fact probably most (80%+) of the crate engines built are still out there in crates. If you wanted an LT5 for a project car, it was far easier to buy a wrecked ZR1.

That engine looks used to me. Obvious wear on the finish.

I just posted MHO on the site. I don’t think it will sell for that money today, not when a good old C4 ZR- sells for the same price.

Ya just like that! Except I'm not married, so my word is final lol. And nice set of skins!! I have a Yamaha set same color, same number of pieces. But tendonitis has reared its ugly head, so playing isn't as enjoyable as it used to be...
