View Full Version : Fikse wheels

Fikse is supposedly back under new management. I have 17” FM5s but I bought them from others that had gone through the trials. I’d like 18s but they are pricey...even with Black Friday deal. I’ve heard folks have had headaches ordering new ones.
Anyone with experience?
Anyone with 18s that have lessons learned and/or final fitment sizes?
What tires & sizes?
Ted

I have 18x10 and 18x12 Shelby wheels and I have found tire sizes are limited for these too..
I saw the Fikse post on CF, Danny that worked there before is Consulting for them. I did not inquire regarding cost and it is out of my range currently

I went with 10x18 front and 12x19 rear Fikse Profil 10 wheels. Deciding factor was much better choice of excellent rear tires available in 19”.

I went with a 19 on the rear of my car only because of the limited tire sizes. The sizes I think are limited to a 335-30-18.

Thanks for the info. I have 17” FM5s but alway jonesing for 18s.
I can make a car go a lot faster on my stockers for the $3,500 plus tires that they want on a deal for the 18s. Always dreaming...

Had to do it on mine with 345/30-19 Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Long term availability of your better quality/performing rear tires was my main concern . In my research found scarcer selection in 17”. 18” not much better. However, plenty to choose from in 19” thanks to our C6 brothers and Viper friends.

I’ve got a set of 18x10 and 19x12 Profil 5’s running 285/35 up front and 345/30 out back. Had to do a little trimming of the inner rear wheel well so they wouldn’t rub. Looks great!
Hope the new management does a better job than the last. They really let me down. Had to return my set 3 times before I got a set that was blemish free😩. If you are going to pay that kinda price, you shouldn’t have so much trouble getting a set that is right🙄

Will do, in time. It’s currently in storage but will be making its final trip home to Colorado next year. I’m pretty sure the rear 11, s have a 50mm grand sport offset, so we will be correcting that while we replace the injectors.
Funny thing is, he used to race and 86’ world challenge clone with Callaway engraved dymags on it through NCCC. I convinced him to sell those in the early 2000‘s. He got 10 K for the set.

Just the rears. Not much trimming. I just road around the block a few times to let the tires leave a scrub mark on the liner and then just trimmed that part away with a dremel tool.

I am also joining the FM5 club. Purchased a used 15 year old 17" set with ZR-1 offsets last fall but they were in rough shape. Met the seller last fall at Ye Old Wheel Shop and had them check out the rims to confirm running true and if they could work their magic and clean them up. In the end they polished them all and painted the back. Looking 100% better. Got my order in from Costco for new Michelin PS2's 275/40/17 in front and 335/35/17's on the rear. Back tires mounted up no problem and look great but fronts are fighting me all the way. I have C5 brake calibers up front and the Fikse's do not clear the caliber. The small nuts on the inside of the Fikse's are hitting the caliber. They will clear with no issues with stock J55.
Long story short, after consulting with my Wazoo brothers, decided best to do some grinding on the caliber. Got together with my neighbor and Wazoo member Dan yesterday who has a lift and grinder and went at it. After grinding and painting just about there and doubt anybody will notice. Still am going to need a small 0.125" spacer and will have that on order today. Hopefully I can use my stock wheel lugs with the spacer, I think it should be fine. Can't wait to get it all back together with the new rubber. After all is done will see if I can find a new home for my chrome A-molds. They are aftermarket and in decent shape for a daily driver.

Those centers are gorgeous,it would be interesting to know what Fikse uses to
get that finish, that has got to be the best looking surface finish I’ve seen on a wheel. I’ve got a machine I made years ago I use to put a brushed finish on a wheel and using a green scuff pad with WD40 almost has the same look but not the sheen. Fikse is the only wheel I’ve ever seen that has this look,it’s what makes the wheel unique and stand out from the other wheel manufacturers out there.

As some additional info, when I first put even 325s on the rear, I did have a rubbing on the inner tire at the wheel well. Over abrupt dips, I could hear the wheel rub behind me. So 345s exacerbate that. However, I converted over to both the DRM trailing arm and rear camber brackets. These helped to nearly eliminate the rubbing altho it will happen. Previously I would get out of the car and have a slight rubber smell. That doesn’t happen any longer.

This is on the forward are on the liner, picture does help much you can get an idea where the spot is. On my car the rear tire will skin the inner backside of the liner occasionally but my car is lowered so it shouldn’t rub on a car at OEM height.

The inner fender fenders on the later cars, have a few significant projections/nubs on the inside edge. These will cause clearance issues, also. On my 94, I used a little angle grinder to remove them. On my 90 & 91, the inner fenderwells didn't have the problem.

The used 17" Fikse FM5's I purchased last year got a nice polish from Ye Old Wheel shop and they mounted and force balanced the new PS2's special ordered from Costco. We had to do a little grinding off the C5 front brake calibers (thanks Dan) and use a 1/8" spacer on the fronts. Now all done and ready for MR7 and BG. Counting down the days!
