Chasing down a wee bit of vibration around 80 mph led to discovering one of my rear A-molds (Chinese knock-offs) rim has an ever-so-slight wobble; about 5mm worth. I'm not sure if that is causing the vibration, but after doing a road-force balance test and truing the tread, the little vibration persists.

I don't notice any vibration on Ami's Z, so I might swap tires/wheels and see if the vibration goes away - I'd be really surprised if it didn't!

Is this something a wheel shop could fix do you guys n gals think?

For ONE, I don't know if little wobble is the issue - but it wasn't corrected with steps taken to fix (a wobble) so far

And TWO, would I be wasting $$ to find out the only "fix" is to buy new wheels?

The thing is, I really, REALLY like the chrome A-mold look on a RED Corvette, and that's the rub (far as finding replacements go). Flat grey/aluminum color "As" are much more common. "As" with a decent chrome application are not so common (a lot of chromed wheels have issues with the chrome flaking or blistering.).

What say U?

Paul, a good wheel shop can “true” the wheel. The operative word here is “good”. I had a shop like that in Denver. They are few a far between these days. Most of these guys just do refinishing anymore. I’m reasonably sure in a city like Chicago you should be able to find one. One of the FBI guys must know of a good one.

Chrome Wheel?

If yes, if the ding is on the inboard side of the wheel any competent wheels shop can easily fix it.
If however it is on the outboard side, you risk cracking the plating, thus they may not want to tackle it.
If it were my wheel, I would check to see if chrome repros identical to yours are available, and buy one, or a pair.
One wheel is not much more than the cost of repair, usually $100.00 or less for the repair.

Maybe you will be lucky and it on the inboard side!

Paul, Ye Old Wheel Shop in Elkridge, MD 410-796-8400 is one of the best in the country to fix bent wheels. Robert D. sent in his OZ wheels here as well. Their motto is You bend 'em, we mend 'em.

Anyone in NY know of a good place? I'm in Brooklyn....Seems that one of my front chrome A-molds I bought has an ever so slight bend as well...When I got it mounted and balanced months ago the technician notified me of it.....Has the slight steering wheel vibration at 80-85 MPH..
