just codes? then anything OBD1 should be fine.. If you are an Android user, then I suggest a simple cable and ALDLDroid..

I would suggest an Autoxray reader/scanner because you can use it on other cars.


However if you find one, a Tech 1A can perform a multitude of tests that a regular reader scanner cant. Also GM used a Tech 1A back in the day

If u simply want to identify codes, u can use a paper clip. Then the codes are in the FSM or here on the forum.
