FYI...

In case you might be wondering...I just received this notification.

For those that have seen my articles in HOTB, these are the lights several others including me have installed and are completely happy (thrilled?) with.

The site states that they are no longer available.
While it does show a price, you cannot add it to your cart.
They do seem effective.

Just direct replacements? No ballasts?

LED headlight require NO BALISTS. However, they do require either a LOAD resistor or else the FOG LIGHT relay has to be grounded separately in order for the FOG lights to work.

Headlight load resistors connected in series with the LED headlights.

Dayam! Here today, gone tomorrow!

I'll see if I can ID another supplier for those particular lights (and post them).

Paul.

Paul, you might try calling Larsen directly to see what the story is. Maybe they could get more if there was a demand for them, like a group buy. Just a thought. --Bob

I just bought a set of these lamps. Will be installing shortly. They have pretty good reviews on Amazon and for the price, I don’t think u can go wrong.

The link I listed are 100% identical to the Larsen units. I have bought three of the same units. Both Z's and my son 96 GS are all upgraded with zero issues. GC

The resistors are available at superbrightleds.com and they get them to you very fast. Easy to ziptie in the headlight bucket area behind the lights. Sold in pairs but you only need one.

Where can you get the Load Resister?

Daryl's correct. the "Larsen" CREE lights ARE type approved and DOT compliant. But, it would take a full time person to keep up with all the branders (i.e., reppackagers) and their model numbers to list the all the lights on the market.

WHAT YOU WANT TO LOOK FOR:

Federal code: 49 CFR 571.108: Selecting the proper “Sealed Beam” LED Headlight:
Those lights that are compliant with DOT authorities have built into them certain restrictions in the light produced to prevent blinding oncoming traffic. Not all LED HEADLIGHTS do!
Look for headlight LED conversions that feature a distinctive “cut-off” line when the LO beam is selected. Such light pattern discrimination is necessary in order to be compliant with the DOT (Federal code: 49 CFR 571.108 ) specifications for lamps, etc.

C-THIS LINK (https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/car-install-supplies/headlight-load-resistor-kit-h4-led-headlight-bulbs/2179/5079/) for the headlight load resistors. Their purpose is to maintain the original circuit current characteristics which insures other parts (e.g., FOG LIGHTS) work w/o being affected by the (very low current) LEDs.

My bad, Thanks

Is it easy to ground the Fog light relay?

My bad, Thanks

Is it easy to ground the Fog light relay?

:USFlag:

Yes* on the 90-92s. The wire to the FOG RELAY can be accessed at the base of the steering column; cut and the end of the section going to the relay can be prepped and grounded wherever most convenient. The wire harness was altered after '92 any the FSM will needed to be consulted to determine where to find the FOG LIGHT RELAY and ground it.
