Hello Tom, welcome to our band of merry men (and women).
No info on your car, although I own 1990 #1786, black on black. - Steve

Thanks Steve. Past Corvette owner. Current '83 911sc owner. The ZR1 in question has come up for sale near me. Thinking about pulling the trigger. It's nice, but not pristine. Like my 911, it's a driver. Current owner told me today that "full power" recently became intermittent. Been reading the forum all day and looks like that could be a hundred different things from faulty switch to vacuum. Just trying to see if any forum member have any info on the specific car. It was in Virginia from new to 2007 then to Texas.

Where in texas? Maybe one of us nearby could go take a look at it for you. I'm in the Austin area.

Stephen -- Thanks, that's very generous of you. I live in Granbury, about 3 hours north of Austin. The car is about an hour north of Austin in Lampasas. I have made tentative plans with the current owner to see the car this coming Tuesday. If you have the time, I'd appreciate someone with ZR1 experience with me.

Depending on the time I could possibly meet you there. I'll PM you to coordinate.

Seems like I remember this car advertised for sale a few months ago. I'll look and see if I can find any info I might have saved.
I'm in Brownwood which is just a couple of hours from Lampasas. Would be glad to give it a look, but I will not be available 'till the week of 11/05.
Let me know if I can help.

Thanks Kenny. Appreciate your offer to help. If all goes well, I'll look at the car on Tuesday. And another generous forum member has agreed to accompany me.

Note to the forum members: My current play car is an older air cooled Porsche 911. One of the greatest joys of owning that car is the camaraderie of forum members at the Pelican Porsche forum. Guys are always leaning forward to help other forum members. Looks like you guys (ZR1 owners) have the same thing going on here. My hat's off to you all.....keep it up!

Tom.
Wish I didn't already have a commitment for Tuesday, but Stephen will be very knowledgeable. He has been there.
I can be available by phone if you run into something you want to ask about.
Shoot me a PM and I'll give you my # if you like.

I'd like to thank all the forum members who helped me with the ZR1 in Lampasas, especially forum member Stephen Reichert who spent his time, money and gas to meet me to look at the car. I did not buy the car so it's still available. If any forum members are interested you can contact Stephen or me (817-995-1991). Or the owner, Jason at 512-782-0555. Thanks again to all.

It was a fun expedition, thanks Tom for having me along. The car was not really well sorted out by registry standards. Could be a good value for someone with experience looking for a project car. The owner was very gracious and accommodating to all of our poking and prodding.

For future reference for anyone searching for info on this car, the biggest concern was that the owner reported intermittent lack of full power operation. I verified the vacuum system was functioning correctly and that the power key was making good contact, so I suspect there's a fuel delivery issue, or maybe a mechanical problem with the secondary actuators or butterfly valves. We did not do a test drive to investigate further.

I think this is the one I was considering a few months ago. I believe he bought it at Leake Auction last year for $16k plus fees, then had to replace injectors when he got it home. I think it ran through the Mecum a few weeks ago and was bid up to $13k, but did not meet reserve.

Yes, that's it. And 13k is probably the right price given the condition.
