We were checking lights on the Z this weekend got everything working but noticed an oddity. The two inside lights are split top half is Red bottom half is orange. Looked at the coffee table book the Zs in the book are all red. I don't believe they were change. Can anyone tell me if this was an option if so what is the code on the build sheet. Thank you please let me know what's up.

Ok will that pass judging because I believe the car came that way and would the euro lights show on the build sheet?

Those are aftermarket. I don't see that an NCRS judge would let those fly.

Tom,

I'll have to check my judging sheets to see what line/point value the tail lights may be. You would get hit with a full deduct on originallty for the taillights since they are aftermarket. The big question is what they are combined with on the line.

It might get overlooked at a Chapter level event due to less experienced judges, but will likely be caught at a regional or higher event.

I'll check the line and post up later.

I suggest you look for some OEM lenses to replace them.

John thank you for the information. Do you have a set of lights or know where I can get a set that will pass judging.

Tom,

I don't have a spare set, sorry. You might post up in the Wanted/For sale section on both sites. Remember the 1990 ZR1 tail lights are different from the base 1990. The 1990 ZR1 lights should have "DOT A (2) 1(2) S(2) T88" Guide 1Y or "DOT A (2) 1(2) S(2) T88 Guide 1Y".

As far as judging points the Exterior section #15 gives 16 originality and 16 condition points to the Tail Lights, Back-up Lights and the high mount center brake light. I would think that since there are 7 items identified on that line and assuming your back-up and high level brake light are correct you would lose 4/7 of the 16 points on originality. Or about 9 or 10 points. Your condition points should be based on the condition of all of the lights.

Hope this helps, John

Tom,

Are the taillight housings different for the euro lights verses OEM. Maybe Jeff will know?

Yes they should be as they house dual bulbs. My guess is there is an adapter harness and the full lenses. I am willing to swap and add some $$ depending on what you have. Tail lights are pretty straight forward to remove

Tom,

Yes they’re very different. They have a split housing for brake and signal. The housings also come w a panel to eliminate any light leakage from top to bottom halves. The lens mates to that. Finally, the housings accommodate 2 bulbs, not one, and the lens is closer to the outer opening in the rear bumper. They’re also angled a bit differently. I have a set on my 92.
Wish someone would make LEDs for these.

Tom,

If Jeff doesn’t want the lenses I may be interested in them depending on the shape they’re in.

Tom,

If Jeff doesn’t want the lenses I may be interested in them depending on the shape they’re in.They came off a 1000 mile car 733 when I bought it. Think all the gremlins are gone now. All the normal things plus a few others. But runs strong now looks new inside and out. Had to be stored in an enclosed climate controlled environment all it's life.

Very odd. Sounds like they replaced just the lens and not the housing. The “euro” light installs I have seen don’t operate properly, ie there are no separate signal and brake lights. My install has separate signal and brake lights. I made my own adapter harness.
I can understand why u would want to have just red lenses. I’d still be interested in those two if Jeff is not.

I don’t see these working right with just the lenses and not the divider to keep the Amber from shining when the brake light was used. These EURO setups also have bulb sockets that are exclusive to the EURO housings,I have the part numbers somewhere for the bulb sockets.

Had a similar issue with my brand "P" track car. A solution is to use the Euro amber lens without the divider with red LED bulbs. There will be bleed over without the divider but the increased intensity should suffice. Red LED bulbs are readily available. Search for AMAZENAR Red LED bulbs using the common bulb identifier. I got mine on Amazon. The red LED bulb overpowers the color of the amber lens.
