I recently aquired a higher milage 93, that i would like to convert from 6spd to auto. I purchased my flexplate and tail housing from our great friend Pete. He has offered to complete the conversion at a very reasonable price, as has Marc our resident specialist.

I thought it might be a fun learning oppertunity as i have built several cars up before too. So the first question i have is what stall did most of you select and why? Also what are you doing with the car and what rear gear and tire are you running? This is a slightly ported car with headers and the usual mods. Heads have yet to be ported and i might just have pete do a 391 coversion on it. Looking to do some drag racing and street driving with it. Would like to still drive it on the street and not have to worry too much about excessive slip and heat.

Next question, this may be a nitrousjunkie or goldcyclon question. I am interested in using the b&m auto shifter in the car, but wondering which one to order? I have an older quicksilver shifter from a 72 transam and i assume i might be able to swap out the quadrant for the right one.

What trans tuner did you use?

Lastly is there a header modification or case mods i should consider to making this transmission fit easier? Using a 2002 mn8 or 4l85e for the project.

OK, This may help, my auto swap was done in Aug 2004. go to zr-1 general postings . the title is Convert To Automatic Trans. post #22 dated 12-04-2012.
If i was to do this again,i would think about using a built turbo 400 with a gear vendors over drive unit ( BK2 option was a regular corvette with turbos and gear vendors over drive unit ) The tail housing is still available from gear vendors. But it would require mod of the C beam and drive shift. THIS WOULD
REQUIRE MORE WORK AND COST. The 4l8OE transmission and Pete's tail housing allows you to use the stock C-beam and drive shaft. My set up uses a 3200 stall converter and rear end gears are 3.73 .I also run jeal headers pass
side did require some work to clear the transmission pan. My transmission is controller by Compushift .There are newer units which may be better. The shifter i use is a B&M Pro ratcher shifter (can't miss a gear one gear at a time
OK by NHRA and IHRA rules.)
